About the Program
The Department of Turkish Language Teaching was established in 2013 within the structure of Faculty of Education at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
The Department provides a minimum four-year undergraduate level education, consisting of 8 semesters. In accordance with the Primary School Turkish Language Teacher frame program, our department offers courses below:
a) Major area courses such as Turkish Language, Turkish Literature, and Turkish Culture
b) Professional Courses of educational sciences for teachers
c) Complementary elective courses from other departments
d) Theoretical and applied courses such as foreign language courses
Our students are entitled to obtain a double major degree with the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance.
Graduates of the Department, which has an academic staff of 3 assistant professors and 1 research assistant, are entitled to work with the title ‘Turkish Language Teacher’ in 5th, 6th,7th and 8th grades at public and private schools which operates under the ministry of national education as well as private preparatory schools and study centers. Apart from these fields, they can also work at media organizations, domestic and overseas educational and cultural institutions, archives and museums, Turcology centers abroad, and private and public organizations of Turkic Republics. In addition, they can teach Turkish origin or foreigners Turkish language courses at relevant centers and organizations either in Turkey or abroad. Graduates of the Department can also pursue an academic career and work as academic staff at universities by receiving relevant graduate degrees.
Graduating with a profile of researcher- educator, graduate teachers of the department will serve our country, society and people by educating and training students, who can communicate effectively, can take social responsibilities, have internalized national values, respect universal values, and have citizenship consciousness.

Objectives
- The objectives of the undergradute(first cycle) degree program of the Department of Turkish Language Teacher Education are to provide students with the necessary skills and competences to follow and implement the principles and methods of contemporary instructional approaches and help them to become highly distinguished and qualified professionals in the field of Turkish Language teaching with their sound academic background as well as their outstanding personal and social traits.
- The aim of the undergradute (first cycle) degree program of the Department of Turkish Language Teacher Education is to contribute to the field of Turkish language teaching through training of Turkish teachers who are well equipped with instructional methods and tools that are necessary for contemporary educational settings.

- They grasp definition of language, language function, language-culture relationship, basic concepts of linguistic and language, the source of the Turkish language-structure in terms of kinship and its place among the world's languages, Historical periods of Turkish language and Ottoman Turkish features, Turkish audio-shape-word-syntactic and semantic information, Current issues of Turkish oral and written expression types, ways of successful writing. They know the importance of values education in Turkish education and vocabulary and they make in the areas of education and skills functional. They examine Turkish education textbooks and the curriculum by Turkish ministry of national education. They know the methods of teaching Turkish to foreigners.
- They have understanding of the effective ways of communication, have managed to use Turkish effectively and correctly complying with the standard specifications, have managed to organize theatre and drama activities.
- They have theoretical information about genre, author and work and that belong to Literary Terms and Theories, Gokturk and Uighur Literature, Classical Ottoman Poetry, Sufi and Folk Literature, Modern Turkish Literature and Turkish World. They have understanding of History of Turkish Culture.
- They have information about Turkish national education system, teaching profession and all aspects of the field of Educational Sciences. They can use at least one foreign language by using information and communication technologies. They establish healthy communication with colleagues; comply with professional and ethical rules and are involved in collaborative applications. They follow national and international resources for personal and professional development in the related field. They apply methods of measurement and evaluation; modern teaching strategies, methods and techniques. They prepare and implement an individualized instructional plan for students with special educational needs.

- They can use efficiently necessary teaching methods and techniques efficiently and have reading-listening-speaking-writing skills and knowledge of Education, the basic characteristics of the Turkish culture in accordance to the level of transposition and implementation in secondary school students. They can interpret and use data which gained high level knowledge and skills.

Degree and Level Awarded
A Bachelor's Degree Program in TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATION is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL) .
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATION.
Admission Requirements
Admission of national students to the TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATION program is contingent on success on the nationally centralised Student Selection Examination (ÖSS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). Graduation Requirements
The degree is awarded to students who successfully completes a minimum of 240 ECTS from the course units of the programme with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Procedures to recognise prior learning (RPL), including non-formal and informal learning, is in an early stage of development in Turkey and there is no a comprehensive and enabling legislative framework at the national level in place yet. However, within the institutional autonomy respected there are some implementations at the institutional level for allocating credits towards exemption from some programme requirements on the basis of RPL. This is particularly a wide spread exercise implemented in cases that students, having a certain level of knowledge, skills and competencies in relation to fields such as foreign languages and computer use, prior to admission to the university, are subjected to an examination and if they are found successful to a certain degree required by the programme they have been admitted to, they are exempted from the relevant course units of the course programme. RPL is also practiced for students who wish to transfer their studies to the equal or an upper levels at an another institution including those from abroad in the same or similar fields. In such cases, students, having received some course units in a previous programme they had studied and having been successful, may be exempted from the same or similar course units of the programmes they are admitted to upon the approval the adaptation committees of the programmes.
Such procedures of recognition are also used comprehensively in practice at our university. The general arrangements for the recognition ofsuch implementations are outlined in the relevant section of our Education and Examination Regulations, Rules & Regulations for Graduate Programmes and that of Regulations for Lateral Transfer of Students.
Employment Opportunities
