Course Objective
To understand basic concepts and terminology related to grammar and phonology; to examine the phonetic characteristics and phonological structure of the Turkish language; to analyze the phonological features, sound changes, and phonological phenomena of Turkish (as spoken in Turkey) in accordance with theoretical frameworks; and to develop analytical skills regarding phonology and phonological phenomena by applying the acquired knowledge to various linguistic data.
Course Content
Phonological features of Turkish; sounds (vowels and consonants), characteristics of vowels and consonants; sound harmony (vowel harmony, consonant harmony); sound (vowel and consonant) changes (narrowing, rounding, assimilation, dissociation, derivation, deletion, voicing, devoicing, fusion, vowel conflict, gemination), linking consonants, linking vowel; suprasegmental phonetic units.

Course Learning Outcomes
- Makes analysis of phonetics in the texts.
- Analyses the sound, vowel, consonant, sound changes.
- It classifies the vowels and consonants of the Turkish language according to various characteristics.
- By learning the phonetics and phonology of Turkish language, one can deeply understand their native tongue and can use science and knowledge better to their benefits with their great command in language.
- Applies phonological analyses (sounds, vowels, consonants and ect.) in Turkish texts.
- The student compares and contrasts the differences between Turkish and world languages in terms of phonological processes. The student learns topics such as stress and intonation in detail.
- Explains the basic concepts and terms related to phonetics.
