Course Objective
To instill fundamental skills—such as listening, speaking, writing, visual reading, and visual presentation—that enable us to use Turkish correctly and effectively. To foster a habit of fluent and meaningful reading. To foster a habit of fluent writing. To instill the understanding that reading and writing are lifelong necessities. To cultivate individuals capable of implementing reading and writing practices tailored to students’ specific characteristics by imparting an understanding of the fundamental concepts, approaches, theories, and techniques related to early reading and writing instruction.
Course Content
Listening, speaking, visual reading, and visual presentation; the definitions and processes of the literacy learning domains and the relationship among them; the characteristics of the Turkish language and their impact on early reading and writing instruction; the objectives and principles of early reading and writing instruction, the basic characteristics of first-grade teachers and students; causes of inefficiency and failure in early reading and writing instruction, tools and materials used in early reading and writing instruction (their characteristics and effects, as well as their selection, development, and use); methods applied in early reading and writing instruction (definitions, characteristics, classification, applications, strengths, and limitations); the phonics-based sentence method (definition, principles, characteristics, stages, and application), and applications of reading and writing instruction in accordance with the stages of the phonics-based sentence method.
