About Us

The Istanbul Sufism Research Center (İSTAM) is a research center operating within Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. Various seminars, conferences, national and international panels, workshops and symposia are organized within the Center. In addition, the Journal of Sufism and Academic Research, indexed in international indexes, is published twice a year, in June and December.

Every year, our Center regularly organizes three or four online seminars in the fall and spring semesters. These seminars are planned within an interdisciplinary framework, focusing primarily on the field of Sufism while taking into account the common ground between Sufism and other disciplines. Participation in these online seminars is possible from Turkey and abroad. The seminars are also held in Arabic and English in addition to Turkish, making it possible to reach a wide audience.

Every year, our Center brings together academics working in the field of Sufism in Turkey by organizing a coordination meeting of Sufism academics in a different city it selects. On the occasion of these meetings, possible studies on Sufism in Turkey and abroad are discussed, ongoing academic work is shared, and common views on the field are formed. In this way, a consultative ground for the development of Sufism research is strengthened.

In addition, our Center provides a suitable working environment for Turkish and foreign academics who study and research in the field of Sufism, and contributes to the preparation of Sufism research within a high-level academic framework. Articles, books, periodicals, and audio and visual publications resulting from academic research are delivered to wide audiences, above all the Sufism academy, thus helping to make the knowledge accumulated in the field more accessible.
