Athlete Scholarship

ARTICLE 16 - (1) The Sports Scholarship is granted to students who have achieved success in national and international sports competitions and proven this success with official documents, or who have officially documented that they are licensed athletes, and who meet the conditions specified below, for the undergraduate program in which they are enrolled — for a maximum of one year for optional foreign language preparatory programs, a maximum of two years for compulsory foreign language preparatory programs, and a maximum of seven years for undergraduate programs — without exceeding the maximum period of study of the programs.

(2) Applications are reviewed by the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee, taking into account the level of sporting achievement and the validity of documents. The scholarship or discount rates proposed by the Preliminary Evaluation Committee as a result of the evaluation are finalized by decision of the University Scholarship Committee.

(3) Newly registering students are not required to have represented the University; however, for the scholarship or discount to continue, the student is required to actively fulfil their representation duties in the relevant branch from the following academic year onward.

(4) The status of students receiving the Sports Scholarship is evaluated at the end of each academic year by the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee, in line with the performance data of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports. If it is determined that a student no longer maintains active representation of the University team, the scholarship is terminated by decision of the University Scholarship Committee.

(5) The Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee is formed by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports, consisting of two staff members from the Department of Health, Culture and Sports and two faculty members from the Faculty of Sport Sciences. The rapporteurship of the Committee is carried out by a staff member appointed by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports. The Committee is chaired by a faculty member appointed by the Dean's Office.

(6) Candidates newly entitled to register at the University must submit their scholarship or discount applications, together with a wet-signed petition and the relevant documents, to the Department of Health, Culture and Sports within five working days of the date of announcement of the placement results at the latest; students who achieve success in sports branches or update their rankings while enrolled must apply by no later than the course registration week of the following academic year's fall semester.

(7) For the Sports Scholarship to be applicable, the relevant sports branch must be included in the official competition calendar of the Turkish University Sports Federation. The scholarship and discount rates to be granted to athletes, according to their level of sporting achievement, are as follows:

a) Athletes who participate in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, or Youth Olympic Games receive a 100% scholarship for as long as they remain active licensed athletes in the relevant branch.

b) Athletes who participate in the finals of the European and World Championships in the senior, under-23, junior, and youth categories of Olympic and Paralympic sports branches, or in the finals of the European and World Cups in the senior, under-23, junior, and youth categories of sports branches for which no European or World Championship is held, receive a 100% scholarship for as long as they remain active licensed athletes in the relevant branch.

c) Students who win a medal representing the University at World University Championships or World University Games organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) receive a 100% scholarship.

ç) Among students who win a medal representing the University at European University Championships or European University Games organized by the European University Sports Association (EUSA): athletes who win first place receive a 100% scholarship, athletes who win second place receive a 90% discount on the tuition fee payable, and athletes who win third place receive an 80% discount.

d) Among students who win a medal at championships organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF): athletes who win first place receive a 100% scholarship, athletes who win second place receive a 90% discount on the tuition fee payable, and athletes who win third place receive an 80% discount.

e) Athletes who win a medal at the Mediterranean Games, Islamic Solidarity Games, or Balkan Championships, in international competitions and tournaments in which at least eight countries' athletes participate in individual sports branches, or at least eight countries' teams participate in team sports, receive a 100% scholarship.

f) Students who have been part of the national team squad within the last four years, have participated in official competitions, and continue to be active licensed athletes in the relevant branch, may, for as long as they remain in the University's team in the branch in which they are a national athlete, receive: for holders of a Class A or Class B National Athlete Certificate, a discount of up to 100% on the tuition fee payable; for holders of a Class C National Athlete Certificate, provided they have participated in international competitions or tournaments involving national teams of at least six countries in individual competitions or at least four countries in team competitions, a discount of up to 75% on the tuition fee payable.

g) Students who document that they have been an active licensed member of the A team or the Youth/Junior teams of Super League, first, second, third division, or lower-division league teams for at least one year and have played in official competitions may, provided they participate in the University team, receive a discount on the tuition fee payable of up to 75% for Super League teams, up to 60% for first or second division league teams, and up to 30% for third division or lower-division teams.

ğ) Athletes competing in Olympic sports branches without league structures who document that they have been active licensed athletes for at least one year within the last three years at the highest level of the relevant branch (Senior or Category A), and who have participated in official competitions, and athletes who document that they have been active licensed athletes for at least one year at one level below the relevant branch (Junior or Category B) and have participated in official competitions, may, for as long as they remain in the University's school team in the relevant branch, receive a discount of up to 50% on the tuition fee payable.

h) Among athletes who ranked in the top three nationally, individually or as a team, within the last three years at the Turkey Inter-Club Championships or Turkey Inter-High School Championships, for as long as they remain in the University's school team in the relevant branch, on the tuition fee payable: athletes who won first place receive a discount of up to 50%, athletes who won second place receive a discount of up to 40%, and athletes who won third place receive a discount of up to 30%.

ı) Athletes who are part of the University team and become champions, individually or as a team, in the top category of championships coordinated by the University Sports Federation receive, for the following academic year, a discount on the tuition fee payable of: 50% for first place, 40% for second place, and 30% for third place.

(8) The Sports Scholarship is terminated, without reinstatement, by decision of the University Scholarship Committee, upon the recommendation of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports and the opinion of the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee, if any of the following circumstances is established:

a) having a cumulative weighted grade point average that falls below 2.00 at the end of the academic year,

b) having received a disciplinary penalty,

c) the student voluntarily leaving the University team.

(9) In the case of indiscipline or insufficient performance, a written warning is sent to the student by the Committee, based on a written report submitted to the Sports Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee by the team's coach. If the student does not begin fulfilling their obligations or does not make the necessary improvement in performance within the semester or year in which the warning is notified, the scholarship is terminated, without reinstatement, by decision of the University Scholarship Committee, upon the recommendation of the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee.

(10) Whether the scholarships of students who are unable to continue sports activities in the relevant semester or year due to an injury sustained during university competitions or training processes will continue is decided by the University Scholarship Committee, upon the evaluation and recommendation of the Sports Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Committee.

Article 16 - (1)The sports scholarship is granted, for the maximum period of study of the undergraduate program in which they are enrolled, to students who meet at least one of the conditions specified below and who present official documents proving this status.

(2)For students newly enrolling at the University, the condition of representing the University is not required; however, for the scholarship or discount to continue, the student must actively fulfill the duty of representing the University in the relevant branch in the following semesters.

(3)The Sports Scholarship is granted, for students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, based on the result of the special aptitude examination and an evaluation of the relevant documents, upon the recommendation of the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Commission and the decision of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Administrative Board; for students of other faculties, it is granted upon the recommendation of the Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Commission and the decision of the University Scholarship Commission.

(4) The Athlete Scholarship Preliminary Evaluation Commission is established by the Faculty of Sports Sciences Administrative Board, consisting of at least two faculty members from the Faculty of Sports Sciences and at least one staff member from the Department of Health, Culture and Sports. The rapporteur of the Commission is the Secretary of the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

(5) Candidates who qualify to enroll in the undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Sports Sciences must submit their scholarship or discount applications to the Secretariat of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, together with a wet-signed petition and the relevant documents, within five business days at the latest from the announcement date of the placement results; students who achieve success in sports branches or update their standings while enrolled must submit their applications by the fall semester course registration week of the following academic year at the latest.

(6)Candidates who qualify to enroll in the undergraduate programs of other faculties must submit their scholarship or discount applications to the Secretariat of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, together with a wet-signed petition and the relevant documents, within five business days at the latest from the announcement date of the placement results; students who achieve success in sports branches or update their standings while enrolled must apply by the fall semester course registration week of the following academic year at the latest.

(7)For the sports scholarship to be applied, the relevant sports branch must exist at the University and must be included in the official competition calendar of the Turkish University Sports Federation. The conditions for granting the Sports Scholarship to University undergraduate students are as follows:

a)Athletes who have participated in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games are granted a 100% scholarship for as long as they continue to be active licensed athletes in the relevant branch.

b)Athletes who have participated in the finals of the European and World Championships in the senior, under-23, junior, and youth categories of Olympic and Paralympic sports branches, as well as in the finals of the European and World Cups in the senior, under-23, junior, and youth categories of sports branches without European and World Championships, are granted a 100% scholarship for as long as they continue to be active licensed athletes in the relevant branch.

c)Students who win a medal representing the University in the World University Championships or World University Games organized by FISU (International University Sports Federation) are granted a 100% scholarship.

ç) Of the students who win a medal representing the University in the European University Championships or European University Games organized by EUSA (European University Sports Association):

  1. Athletes who have won first place are granted a 100% scholarship,

  2. athletes who have won second place receive a 90% discount on the tuition fee they are required to pay,

  3. athletes who have won third place receive an 80% discount on the tuition fee they are required to pay,

and a discount is applied.

d) Of the students who win a medal in the championships organized by ISF (International School Sport Federation):

  1. Athletes who have won first place are granted a 100% scholarship,

  2. athletes who have won second place receive a 90% discount on the tuition fee they are required to pay,

  3. athletes who have won third place receive an 80% discount on the tuition fee they are required to pay,

and a discount is applied.

e)Athletes who win a medal at the Mediterranean Games, Islamic Solidarity Games, or Balkan Championships, or at international competitions and tournaments in which athletes from at least eight countries participate in individual sports branches and teams from at least eight countries participate in team sports, are granted a 100% scholarship.

f) Students who have been part of the national team squad within the last four years, participated in official competitions, and continue to be active licensed athletes in the relevant branch are, for as long as they remain on the University's team in the branch in which they are national athletes: those holding a Class A or Class B National Athlete Certificate are granted a scholarship of up to 100%; those holding a Class C National Athlete Certificate receive a discount of up to 90% on the tuition fee they are required to pay, provided they have participated in international competitions or tournaments involving national teams from at least six countries in individual competitions or from at least four countries in team competitions.

g)For students who document that they have been active licensed members of the A Team or PAF/Youth teams of Super League, 1st League, or 2nd League teams for at least one year and who have played in official matches, provided that they continue their active athletic activity with the university's school team, a discount is applied on the tuition fee they are required to pay as follows:

  1. up to 80% for Super League athletes,

  2. up to 70% for 1st League athletes,

  3. up to 60% for 2nd League athletes,

  4. and up to 30% for 3rd League and lower division athletes,

and a discount is applied.

h)For athletes competing in Olympic sports branches without league statuses, a discount of up to 50% on the tuition fee they are required to pay may be applied to those who document that they have been active licensed athletes for at least one year within the last three years at the highest level of the relevant branch (Senior or Category A) and who have taken part in official competitions, for as long as they remain on the University's school team in that branch; a discount of up to 40% may be applied to those who document that they have been active licensed athletes for at least one year at one level below the relevant branch (Junior or Category B) and who have taken part in official competitions, for as long as they remain on the University's school team in that branch.

ı)For those who have ranked among the top three nationwide, individually or as a team, within the last three years in the Turkish Inter-Club Championships and Turkish Inter-High School Championships, a discount is applied on the tuition fee they are required to pay, for as long as they remain on the University's school team in the relevant branch, as follows:

  1. 50% for athletes who have won first place,

  2. 40% for athletes who have won second place,

  3. 30% for athletes who have won third place,

and a discount is applied.

i)For those who are members of the University's school teams and become champions, individually or as a team, in the highest category of the Inter-University Championships coordinated by the Inter-University Sports Federation, a discount is applied on the tuition fee they are required to pay as follows:

  1. 50% for athletes who have won first place,

  2. 40% for athletes who have won second place,

  3. 30% for athletes who have won third place,

and a discount is applied.

(5)The Sports Scholarship is terminated and not granted again, in the cases specified below, by the decision of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Administrative Board for students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, and by the decision of the University Scholarship Commission upon the recommendation of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports for students of other faculties:

a)The weighted overall grade point average falling below 2.00 at the end of the academic year.

b)Having received a disciplinary penalty.

c)The student voluntarily leaving the University team, or being removed from the team by the University team's head coach or coach due to lack of discipline or insufficient performance.
