TRC 002 - Language Acquisition

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to make students comprehend mother tongue and foreign language acquisition theories, compare and exemplify them, stages of language development and language acquisition process, language acquisition and learning-process, to be able to have knowledge about the basic features of language, especially first and second language, to be able to discuss how human learning is realized.

Course Content

First and second language acquisition theories; developmental stages and processes of mother tongue and target language; case studies, form in the second language, syntactic development stages, second language acquisition processes, learner characteristics in second language acquisition and individual differences in the acquisition, difference in second language and foreign language learning contexts, multiple intelligence theory.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students be able to explain the basic concepts of language acquisition.
  2. Students know the mother tongue and foreign language learning processes.
  3. Students be able to express differences between language acquisition and learning.
  4. Students be able to explain the factors affecting language acquisition and learning
