WORKPLACE VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME (İYMEP) DIRECTIVE
PART ONE
Introductory Provisions
Purpose
ARTICLE 1- (1) The purpose of this Directive is to regulate the principles concerning the Workplace Vocational Training Program (IYMEP) to be implemented in all engineering undergraduate programs affiliated with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
Scope
ARTICLE 2- (1) This Directive covers students enrolled in the engineering undergraduate programs of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
Basis
ARTICLE 3- (1) This Directive has been prepared on the basis of Article 14 and Provisional Article 74 of Higher Education Law No. 2547 dated 4/11/1981 and the provisions of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Undergraduate Education and Instruction Regulations.
Definitions
ARTICLE 4- (1) In this Directive;
a) Course Completion Term: The last semester preceding the İYMEP term,
b) GPA: refers to the weighted grade point average,
c) GPA : The weighted grade point average,
ç) İYMEP Commission: The commission that carries out the necessary arrangements and decision-making processes concerning the student within the scope of the İYMEP course,
d) IYMEP Course Coordinator Assessment: refers to the observations and assessments of the Course Coordinator regarding the professional development the student has gained during the IYMEP process and the extent to which the process has been carried out in line with the IYMEP objectives and strategies,
e) İYMEP Course Coordinator: The faculty member appointed to monitor the student's activities during the İYMEP training process,
f) IYMEP Term: refers to the eighth semester in the curricula of the engineering undergraduate programs,
g) İYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor Evaluation Form: The form containing the observations and evaluations made by the Workplace Training Supervisor regarding the professional performance, development and social conduct displayed by the student during the İYMEP training process,
ğ) İYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor: The workplace employee appointed as responsible for guiding and monitoring the student's activities during the İYMEP training process,
h) İYMEP Student: The student taking the İYMEP course,
ı) İYMEP Report: The report prepared by the student during the İYMEP course process,
i) İYMEP: The Workplace Vocational Training Programme,
j) IYMEP Workplace: refers to the institutions and organizations deemed suitable by Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University for conducting the IYMEP course and with which a protocol has been signed,
k) Protocol: refers to the document setting out the matters to be complied with between Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and the IYMEP Workplace, prepared by the Faculty IYMEP Commission and approved by the Rectorate,
l) Rector: The Rector of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University,
m) Senate: The Senate of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University,
n) University: Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University,
shall have the meanings set out above.
PART TWO
Principles for the Implementation of the İYMEP Course
Conduct of the İYMEP course
ARTICLE 5- (1) The İYMEP course is offered as an option among the elective courses to be taken in the eighth semester of the curricula of the relevant undergraduate programmes and is conducted simultaneously with the courses of that semester without any interruption to education.
(2) The İYMEP student is selected, no later than one week before the course selection and approval week of the eighth semester specified in the academic calendar, from among the students who have completed all courses up to the eighth semester of the curricula of the relevant undergraduate programmes, in accordance with the principles determined by the Faculty İYMEP Commission. Students who will take the course are selected according to their CGPA ranking.
(3) An İYMEP student may not request a change of workplace after the Add-Drop Period included in the academic calendar determined by the Senate.
(4) Students are obliged to use all tools and equipment they use at the workplace during IYMEP properly. Students are liable for any material damage arising from their careless and irresponsible conduct.
(5) The selected İYMEP student registers for the İYMEP course during the course registration period of the eighth semester.
(6) The İYMEP Term covers one semester of education and training, including the end-of-semester examination dates.
(7) The IYMEP Course Coordinator is assigned a theoretical teaching load of two hours per week, regardless of the number of applied training groups.
Attendance and achievement
ARTICLE 6- (1) İYMEP students are required to attend 80% of the total working days. A student who does not fulfil the attendance requirement and the other conditions of the programme is deemed to have failed the İYMEP course.
(2) The monitoring and assessment of each IYMEP student's performance is carried out by the IYMEP Course Coordinator, taking into account the assessment of the Workplace Training Supervisor.
Evaluation and finalisation of Workplace Vocational Training
ARTICLE 7- (1) The performance of students participating in İYMEP is evaluated by the İYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor and the İYMEP Course Coordinator.
(2) The IYMEP Course Coordinator carries out the assessment on the basis of three reports prepared by the student, one every five weeks. The scores awarded separately out of 100 by the IYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor and the IYMEP Course Coordinator are weighted at 40% and 60% respectively, and the resulting scores are used. The IYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor makes their assessment by filling in the Workplace Training Supervisor Assessment Form.
(3) The end-of-semester score is converted into a letter grade in accordance with the principles set out in the University Undergraduate Education and Instruction Regulations. The resulting letter grade is shown on the transcript as the letter grade of the IYMEP course and is included in the SGPA and GPA.
(4) Course grades are entered into the student information system by the IYMEP Course Coordinator by the last day of the grade announcement dates for the final examinations of the relevant semester.
(5) In order to pass the İYMEP course, the end-of-semester letter grade must be at least CC. Students who receive a grade lower than CC are deemed to have failed the İYMEP course. Students who fail and students who do not meet the attendance requirement may retake the İYMEP course in subsequent semesters or may take courses from the elective course pool of the relevant semester equivalent to the ECTS credits of this course.
PART THREE
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities of the Dean
ARTICLE 8- (1) As the senior administrator of İYMEP, the Faculty Dean is responsible for taking the necessary measures to ensure that workplace vocational training is carried out in full.
(2) The İYMEP Commission is determined by the Dean. The Dean may make changes to its members where deemed necessary.
(3) Within the scope of İYMEP, the procedures and transactions relating to the insurance of students to be insured pursuant to Article 5 of the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510 dated 31/05/2006 are coordinated by the Faculty Deanship.
(4) Within the scope of İYMEP, protocols to be signed with enterprises are signed by the Rector upon the proposal of the Faculty Dean.
Duties and responsibilities of the IYMEP Commission
ARTICLE 9- (1) The IYMEP Commission consists of three members appointed by the Dean for a term of three years from among the faculty members, namely one chair and two members. Members whose term has expired may be reappointed.
(2) The IYMEP Commission contacts relevant organizations within or outside the city, with priority given to the province of Istanbul, and identifies businesses wishing to be included within the scope of the IYMEP Workplace. A business with which a protocol is signed is deemed to have been included within the scope of the IYMEP Workplace.
(3) The conditions required for an enterprise to be included within the scope of İYMEP Workplaces are determined by the İYMEP Commission.
Duties and responsibilities of the İYMEP Course Coordinator
ARTICLE 10- (1) The İYMEP Course Coordinator is responsible for evaluating the İYMEP Reports and for entering into the student information system and announcing the evaluation scores determined together with the İYMEP Workplace Training Supervisor.
(2) To assess the professional development the student has gained during the IYMEP course and the extent to which the course has been conducted in line with the aims and objectives of IYMEP.
(3) To visit the students enrolled in the IYMEP course at their workplaces at least once for monitoring purposes.
Responsibilities of İYMEP Workplaces
ARTICLE 11- (1) The responsibilities of İYMEP Workplaces are as follows:
- To carry out the workplace vocational training of students in accordance with the University's academic calendar,
- To ensure that workplace vocational training is conducted at the location specified in the Protocol,
- To assign a sufficient number of training personnel to be responsible for the workplace vocational training of students in the programmes in which workplace vocational training will be conducted,
- ç) To apply the workplace vocational training contract to students undertaking workplace vocational training with regard to matters such as the amount of remuneration and remuneration increases pursuant to the first paragraph of Article 25 of Law No. 3308,
- To monitor students' attendance and to report their absences and sick leave to the Faculty Secretariat within the prescribed period so that they may be forwarded to the relevant programme heads,
- To send the forms containing information on the students' training to the Faculty Secretariat in a sealed envelope at the end of the training,
- To ensure that students who have begun the İYMEP course continue their training at the enterprise until the workplace vocational training is completed,
- To take the necessary measures to protect students from occupational accidents and occupational diseases and to ensure that students comply with occupational health and safety rules.
PART FOUR
Final Provisions
Cases not covered by provisions
ARTICLE 12- (1) In cases not covered by this Directive, the decisions of the İYMEP Commission, the Faculty Executive Board and the Senate, together with the provisions of the relevant legislation, apply.
Entry into force
ARTICLE 13- (1) This Directive enters into force on the date on which it is adopted by the Senate.
Execution
ARTICLE 14- (1) The provisions of this Directive are executed by the Rector.
