ISTANBUL SABAHATTIN ZAIM UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND NATURAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS
INTERNSHIP IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES
1. PURPOSE and SCOPE
1.1. The purpose of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering internship is to reinforce the theoretical knowledge and experience students acquire during their studies, to develop the skills and experience they have gained, and to enable them to identify the responsibilities, relationships and organization at the workplaces where they will complete their internships, as well as the techniques and methods used there.
1.2. These implementation principles have been drawn up, in accordance with the University's internship directive and the Faculty's internship implementation principles, in order to regulate matters specific to the department such as the number and duration of internships, the periods in which internships may be completed and the types of organizations at which they may be carried out.
2. IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES
2.1. In the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering there are 2 internships, General and Professional, and each internship consists of 30 working days. Students are required to complete a total of 60 days of internship. The general internship must be completed first. The General and Professional internships may each be carried out in separate parts of at least 10 working days. Any outstanding internship days must be completed as working days before graduation.
2.2. Internships must be carried out at workplaces operating in at least one of the core fields of Electrical and Electronics Engineering or having a unit related to this field. At least 1 (one) electrical, electronics, electronics and communication, or electrical and electronics engineer must be employed at the workplace where the internship is carried out. Otherwise, the internship completed at that workplace is rejected. The core fields of Electrical and Electronics Engineering may be listed as electrical installations, electrical machines, power electronics, electronic circuit design, communication, robotics, control and automation.
2.3. The general internship aims to provide general knowledge and skills in the core fields of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a general familiarity with materials and systems. The professional internship, on the other hand, aims to provide more advanced knowledge and skills in the same fields together with the ability to carry out professional analysis and design.
2.4. The general internship is completed at the earliest during the summer vacation following the 4th semester, and the professional internship during the summer vacation following the 6th semester.
2.5. The Faculty Executive Board, upon the recommendation of the Head of Department, is authorized to grant exemptions for internships that students completed during their studies at equivalent Higher Education Institutions, provided that these are documented. Decisions of the Faculty Executive Board to this effect are reported to the Directorate of Student Affairs. Students in this situation must submit their internship documents from the relevant Higher Education Institution within the first semester of their enrollment. Internship exemption requests of students who do not submit their internship documents within the specified semester are not accepted.
2.6. For vertical transfer students, only the first 30-day portion of the internships they completed at the vocational school from which they graduated may be accepted, provided that the content is deemed appropriate by the departmental internship committee. For the 30-day internship completed at the vocational school from which vertical transfer students graduated and whose content is deemed appropriate by the departmental internship committee, the requirement stated above of having completed the first four semesters of undergraduate study is not sought. Students in this situation must submit their internship documents from the relevant Higher Education Institution within the first semester of their enrollment. Internship exemption requests of students who do not submit their internship documents within the specified semester are not accepted.
2.7. Internships are carried out during academic holidays. Work performed on official holidays and on Sundays is not counted towards the internship period. However, students who have at least two free full working days per week (including Saturday) may complete an internship alongside their studies. Graduation projects are not taken into account in this assessment. Students may not carry out internship work on days on which they have final or resit examinations. These rules also apply to summer school instruction.
2.8. Internships are counted as five working days per week. At workplaces where Saturday is a working day, the internship may also be carried out on Saturdays.
3. OTHER PROVISIONS
3.1. These internship implementation principles enter into force as of the date on which they are approved by the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Istanbul S. Zaim University.
3.2. The internship implementation principles may be revised and applied upon the proposal of the Departmental Board and the approval of the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, provided that they remain in accordance with the Istanbul S. Zaim University Undergraduate Education Internship Directive.
