Computer Engineering

The Food Engineering Undergraduate Programme is a 240-ECTS programme with a normal duration of 4 academic years consisting of 8 semesters. As in the other undergraduate departments of our University, 1 ECTS in the Food Engineering undergraduate programme corresponds to a student workload of 30 (hours/semester). The aim of the Department of Food Engineering is to enable students to acquire engineering skills to use modern science and technology in the processing, preservation, distribution and marketing of food. To achieve this aim, it is necessary to understand the basic principles of disciplines such as chemistry, physics, microbiology, unit operations engineering, economics, hygiene, nutrition and public health. All theoretical and practical data and methods in the food industry, from raw materials in the food production chain to the final product reaching the consumer, fall within the scope of Food Engineering. Food engineering is generally a multidisciplinary branch of engineering, and our curriculum strikes a full balance between theory and practice.

Our graduates can deal with challenges in areas related to cereals, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, edible oils, meat, poultry and fish products or factory-produced foods. Producing high-quality food at minimum cost, controlling all stages from production to marketing, and solving the problems encountered are some of the areas in which our graduates can work successfully. In addition, food engineers have tasks and functions such as monitoring additives in food and beverages and their use, modifying or improving existing food production recipes, developing new products, designing new equipment and systems for production and applying them industrially.

With comprehensive knowledge and skills regarding the latest developments in food engineering, as well as a solid foreign language and computer background, our graduates will be able to find jobs as high-quality professionals in their fields both in Turkey and abroad.

Opportunities Offered to Students:

  • Opportunity to learn foreign languages (free of charge),

  • Opportunity to do a minor (with a scholarship for the normal duration of the major programme),

  • Opportunity to do a double major (with a scholarship for the normal duration of the double major programme),

  • Opportunity to study abroad (1 or 2 semesters) through international exchange programmes such as Erasmus,

  • Opportunity to continue with master's programmes after graduation, and advantages offered to İZÜ graduates.

Career Opportunities:

Our graduates work as engineers and responsible managers in the R&D, production, quality assurance, marketing, import and export areas of the food industry.
Today, employers want Food engineers who have strong analytical and numerical skills, are inclined to teamwork, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, are careful and meticulous about food hygiene and health, and can work independently. And İZÜ is already training Food engineers with these qualities.
Students who successfully complete the programme can apply to master's and doctoral programmes in Turkey and abroad in the field of Food Engineering or in other disciplines that accept students from this field.
