Architecture Internship Implementation Principles

ISTANBUL SABAHATTIN ZAIM UNIVERSITY
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND NATURAL SCIENCES
UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION INTERNSHIP IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

1. PURPOSE and SCOPE

1.1. The purpose of internships is to reinforce the theoretical knowledge and experience students acquire during their studies, to develop the skills and experience they gain in laboratory and workshop practice, and to enable them to identify their responsibilities, the relationships, the organization and the techniques and methods used at the workplaces where they will complete their internships.

1.2. In accordance with the University's internship directive, these implementation principles set out the common principles applying to all compulsory internships to be carried out within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

1.3. The matters set out in these implementation principles shall apply in the same way to voluntary internships if they are to be shown on the student's transcript.

1.4. The departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences shall separately determine and announce implementation principles covering matters such as the number and duration of their internships, the term in which they are to be completed and the minimum requirements for the internship placement.

2. IMPLEMENTATION PRINCIPLES

2.1. In any academic term, with the approval of the departmental internship committee, a student may complete the internship during the relevant semester or during the summer period.

2.2. Approval must be obtained from the departmental internship committee before the internship. The internship application form must be submitted to the relevant committee at least 10 working days before the start of the internship.

2.3. If an unforeseen public holiday or a holiday declared by the institution itself occurs during the designated internship period, and provided that this period does not exceed 10% of the total internship duration, the missing days must be made up by adding days to the end of the internship without changing the official internship period.

2.4. The final date for submitting internship files to the departmental internship committees after the internships are completed is determined by the departmental implementation principles.

2.5. In order for students to complete their internships, they must have registered for the Internship 1 and Internship 2 courses (the Departments of Architecture and of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design may differ). If the student has not taken either or both of these courses, the student shall submit an internship request to the relevant departmental internship committee. The internship committee shall evaluate matters such as the course load the student has completed, academic performance and the suitability of the proposed internship placement, and shall make the final decision regarding the student's internship.

2.6. Students who enroll in our faculty through vertical transfer or horizontal transfer (CGPA or Additional Article 1) may apply to the departmental internship committees for recognition of any internships they have previously completed. If the Internship Evaluation Committee is satisfied that the previously completed internships are appropriate, the student is deemed to have completed the internship and the internship courses are also considered completed. If the internship is accepted but its duration is insufficient, the committee requires the student to make up the missing period at the same institution or at another institution. The maximum period of acceptance for previously completed internships is five (5) years. Applications are not accepted for internships completed more than five (5) years ago.

2.7. Apart from international internship mobility carried out within the framework of bilateral agreements such as Erasmus, internships to be completed abroad may be accepted by decision of the Departmental Board.

3. OTHER PROVISIONS

3.1. The implementation guide prepared by each department in accordance with these implementation principles enters into force and is revised upon the opinion of the departmental board and the approval of the "Faculty Board".

3.2. These internship implementation principles enter into force as of the date on which they are approved by the Senate of our University following the opinion of the "Faculty Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

3.3. The internship implementation principles may be revised and applied with the approval of the "Faculty Executive Board" of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, provided that they remain in accordance with the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Undergraduate Education Internship Directive.
