About the Institute

General Information

Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 2319 of 27.03.2020, published in the Official Gazette No. 31082 of 28 March 2020, the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Natural Sciences within Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University were closed, and the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Graduate School of Education was established by the same decree. The graduate programmes of the closed institutes and the students enrolled in these programmes were transferred to the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Graduate School of Education as of 28 March 2020.

Undergraduate education provides students with a broad, general and horizontal education. Graduate education, on the other hand, offers students an advanced programme of study and training focused on an academic discipline or profession. The Graduate School of Education seeks to equip students with in-depth (vertical) understanding, critical-analytical thinking skills and the ability to conduct independent research so that they may become experts in their field of study. A good master's programme, for example, teaches advanced skills in areas such as critical-analytical thinking, creativity, problem solving, writing, oral presentation, communication, collaboration and the use of technology, each of which can be applied to a particular field of study. These acquired skills will contribute both to training the teaching staff needed by our own institution and by other higher education institutions, and to the qualified workforce needed by the private sector.

In line with this aim, the courses offered within the Social Sciences and Natural Sciences programs of the Institute of Graduate Studies, the theses written and the projects carried out both serve to strengthen the theoretical foundation and seek, through practice-oriented contributions, to find effective solutions to the problems encountered in every area of contemporary social life. In this way, both lasting and applicable solutions to these problems can be produced and academics of international calibre can be brought into the world of science. Undertaking every kind of effort to publish the academic work produced and thus contribute it to the world of science is one of the core principles of the Institute of Graduate Studies.
