Turnitin improves students' writing skills by providing rich feedback and preventing plagiarism; it encourages original writing within a given timeframe. Today's educators and administrators strive to encourage students to use information accurately, thoughtfully and lawfully. Thanks to access to billions of internet sources, students can copy and paste entire paragraphs from a source within seconds; combined with the emphasis placed on performance and assessment, this leads to an increase in the use of non-original content in student research and papers.
When analyzing a document, Turnitin searches large databases. These are:
- 337+ million student assignments and more than 620 million documents in total
- 110,000+ journals and books, more than 157 million publications in total
- 62+ billion current and archived web pages
More than 30 million students and over 1.6 million active teachers at more than 15,000 educational institutions in 140 countries use Turnitin.
