About Language Levels

-Turkish courses at IZU TÖMER are delivered through modules offered from A1 to C1 in the autumn and spring terms.

-Courses are delivered over 7 (seven) weeks and 140 (one hundred and forty) hours. The final examination is held in the eighth week. Placement tests are held on the Thursdays preceding the start date of each course level.

-Our classes are held at our IZU Halkalı campus on weekdays between 09.00-12.30 / 13.30-17.00, for 4 hours a day and 20 hours a week.

-Our courses use the "New Istanbul Turkish Coursebook for International Students".**

-Various written and visual assignments are given throughout the course. Film screenings and excursions are organised on the common dates specified for each level.

-End-of-level examinations and midterm examinations measuring reading, listening, writing and speaking skills are held at every level.
 

* Courses are opened during the day if there are enough students.
** Texts from different sources are preferred in Academic Turkish classes.

Language Levels

Our courses are organised according to the language levels defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Beginner Level (A1-A2)

Level A1

A person at this level can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very simple sentences aimed at meeting concrete needs. They can introduce themselves and others, and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have. They can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Level A2

A person at this level can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, work, the immediate environment). They can communicate in simple situations requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. They can describe in simple terms where they come from, their education, their environment and matters related to immediate needs.


Intermediate Level (B1-B2)

Level B1

A person at this level can understand the main points of a conversation when clear standard language is used and when familiar matters such as work, school, leisure activities and so on are involved. They can deal with most situations they encounter in places where Turkish is spoken. They can express themselves with ease and connect ideas on familiar topics and areas of interest. They can recount experiences and events and describe their dreams, expectations and goals.

Level B2

A person at this level can understand the main content of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics. They can also follow discussions in their own field of specialisation. They can express themselves fluently in everyday conversations with native speakers of Turkish, so that both parties can understand each other without significant difficulty. They can state their ideas clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics, explain their views on a current issue and describe the advantages and disadvantages of different options.


Advanced Level (C1)

Level C1

A person at this level can understand rich and lengthy texts on a variety of topics and grasp their logical connections. They can express themselves fluently without having to search noticeably for words. They can use the language effectively and flexibly in social life, in professional life and in vocational training and higher education. They can express detailed views on complex topics clearly and in an organised manner, using different strategies to link their text appropriately with others.

Academic Turkish (C2)

-At this level, students acquire the academic skills required to conduct academic research and present its results within an academic framework.
