IZU-NET Usage Instructions

Introduction

UlakNet provides computer network connectivity to universities in Türkiye and between universities and the Internet. As a UlakNet user, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University is required to comply with the ULAKBİM Acceptable Use Policy. Likewise, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University provides its users with access to the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Local Area Network (IZU-NET) and to UlakNet. Every IZU-NET user must also comply with this document and with the İZÜ Information Resources Usage Policy. This policy has been designed to be consistent with and complementary to the ULAKBİM Acceptable Use Policy.

Definitions

IZU-NET: In this document, this refers to the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Local Area Network, and IZU-NET services comprise the whole of the network services and activities that meet users' computer- or network-related needs.

İZÜ Information Resources Usage Policy: Defines the rules applied to all users of the services of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Department of Information Technology.

Users: refers to students, academic staff, administrative staff and all other users of IZU-NET, without being limited to these.

Department of Information Technology: Provides services to the students, faculty members and staff of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. These services are intended for research and development activities for educational purposes.

Purposes of IZU-NET Use

  1. The IZU-NET network is designed solely for professional purposes such as education, scientific research, technical development, technology transfer and the dissemination of scientific, technical and cultural knowledge, and must be used in line with these purposes.

  2. Users must use network services only for lawful data transfer in accordance with the relevant legal regulations.

  3. Users must take the necessary security measures, such as secure login credentials, virus scanners, firewalls and software security patches, where appropriate and necessary.

  4. No unauthorised third party or organisation, whether commercial or non-commercial and whether for a fee or free of charge, may be granted access to IZU-NET.

  5. Departments or units using the IZU-NET network are deemed to have assumed responsibility for the use of these resources and are responsible for the inbound and outbound traffic generated by their users. In the event of any problems in this regard, departments or units must assess the warnings received from the Department of Information Technology and warn the user(s) generating the improper and unwanted traffic in order to prevent unnecessary traffic from continuing or recurring.

  6. Departments, units and users may not make software- or hardware-level changes or additions to the cabling system, network access devices and other equipment installed by the Department of Information Technology; where necessary, they may contact the Department of Information Technology to request the required changes. The request is assessed by the Department of Information Technology and then concluded.

  7. IZU-NET may not be used for the following purposes:

  8. 7.1. Granting an unauthorised person access to the services of the Department of Information Technology,

  9. 7.2. Sending e-mail indiscriminately and without the recipient's consent (SPAM messages),

  10. 7.3. Using another user's mail address to send messages without that user's permission,

  11. 7.4. Installing and using peer-to-peer file sharing programs,

  12. 7.5. Generating data traffic that degrades the quality of the services of the Department of Information Technology,

  13. 7.6. Producing or distributing prohibited material,

  14. 7.7. Producing or distributing material that is untrue, distressing or disturbing, or that causes undue anxiety,

  15. 7.8. Producing or distributing defamatory or slanderous material,

  16. 7.9. Transmitting/publishing/distributing copyrighted material (programs, texts, articles, books, films, musical works, etc.) in violation of others' copyright,

  17. 7.10. Attempting to obtain or disseminate login credentials belonging to other users,

  18. 7.11. Deliberately using local, national or international computers or services without authorisation,

  19. 7.12. Corrupting or damaging data belonging to other users, or violating their privacy rights,

  20. 7.13. Intruding on the personal information of others and disrupting their work,

  21. 7.14. Persistently using software whose use has been prohibited by announcement of ULAKBİM because it disrupts the operation of UlakNet or generates unnecessary traffic, or generating traffic in a way that prevents services from being provided to other users,

  22. 7.15. Causing a computer to become infected with any computer virus, computer worm, trojan, spyware or any other unwanted program, whether deliberately or through weak security.
