About the Program

The Clinical Psychology Doctorate Program is able to evaluate abnormal behavior in line with current scientific developments, be aware of this by internalizing its ethical responsibilities, keeping itself up-to-date in line with social needs, pursuing methodical knowledge, understanding and applying research methods, gaining theoretical and practical knowledge and it aims to train clinical psychology professionals equipped with the skills. Beyond these, the graduates who have completed the clinical psychology doctorate program are expected to serve our country as experts who are beneficial to humanity and know how to take responsibility.

In addition to being competent clinicians in the field, one of the main objectives of the program is to train academicians who have improved themselves academically and can contribute to the literature. The students who have completed the clinical psychology doctorate program in various state institutions, private sector as a psychologist and they have opportunities to be employed at universities with the title of lecturer.

Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. The theoretical goal is to have the necessary basic and advanced knowledge to conduct research, statistical analysis and to apprehend field related literature.
  2. To learn how to assess abnormal behaviors in the light of recent scientific developments
  3. To train practitioners \ clinicians who are highly aware of their ethical responsibilities.
  4. To internalize the ethical responsibilities
  5. The goal is to help students to apprehend basic and advanced definitions, concepts related with Psychology Discipline focusing on specific field or fields (cognitive therapy, cross cultural psychotherapy etc.).
  6. To obtain the ability of psychological assessment and evaluation
  7. To have the cognitive skill set to analyze and evaluate the current issues and arguements in the clinical psychology field with the help of courses about advanced research methods, statistics, psychopathology and psychotherapy
  8. To obtain psychotherapy and clinical interview skills
  9. To train experts in the field of clinical psychology who are equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills
  10. One of the goals is to help students become competent to conduct a standard literature review, find a unique research subject, conduct research, and write a research paper.
  11. One of the expected outcomes of this program is for students to have sufficient and necessary communication skills. They will be able to argue their unique ideas and arguments indicating their competence in the related field. They will be also competent in the foreign language of the current literature, which is English in this case

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Admission Requirements

- Being a graduate of Psychology undergraduate and Psychology / Clinical Psychology master's program with thesis,

- The Scientific Preparation Program is applied to the graduates of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling undergraduate and the Guidance and Psychological Counseling master's program with thesis. (Applications are not accepted except for these programs.)

- Graduate graduation grade point average must be at least 3.00 out of 4 or 75.00 out of 100,

- Getting at least 55 points from ALES (EA-point type),

- To get a score of at least 60 from YDS or YÖKDİL (English) or an equivalent score from the foreign language (English) exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM,

*International/foreign national candidates are required to obtain at least TÖMER B2 certificate from Turkish Education Centers of Universities since the program language is Turkish. Students who are accepted to programs whose language of instruction is partially or completely Turkish and who do not have TÖMER B2 certificate are required to register to the Turkish Education and Teaching Application and Research Center of our University and obtain a Turkish Proficiency Certificate at least at B2 level.

*Graduates of the Master without Thesis Program cannot apply to the doctorate program. However, students enrolled or graduated from non-thesis master's programs before 06/02/2013 can apply to the doctorate program.

Graduation Requirements

The students have to complete the following: 7 courses, seminar course (learning basics of writing thesis according to the institute's guide and APA 7 rules), Doctoral Qualifying Exam, thesis proposal, and thesis.
To graduate from this program, students have to take and successfully pass courses whose total ECTS credits [European Credit Transfer System, AKTS] will be equal to a total of 240 ECTS credits.
The Student's GPA (grade point average) has to be no less than 3.00.
Students are also expected to conduct academic research. Thus, they either have to publish 2 conference papers or have to publish an article in the area of psychology to graduate.

Employment Opportunities

Students with doctoral degrees can pursue professional careers in applied work — such as health services, counseling in school settings and consulting in businesses and organizations in addition to research and academic work.
