HISTORY AND CIVILIZATION STUDIES - THESIS

About the Program

-It consists of seven courses (3 hours per week), graduate seminar, and thesis study (120 ECTS total). The normal duration of this program is 4 semesters; the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

- Students, who completed course phase, submit a thesis proposal with the thesis form to the Institute, before starting their theses. After their proposals approved by the Institute, they can start their theses.

- Students enrolled in thesis master programs in the Institute of Social Sciences must fulfill the following conditions before their graduation.

The student who is enrolled in a graduate program must fulfill at least one of the following conditions in order to graduate.

  1. Two papers presented at national or international scientific meetings,
  2. An article published in a peer-reviewed/ indexed journal, accepted for publication, or received a DOI number,
  3. Two papers presented at Social / Science symposiums organized by IZU.
Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. To train experts who have analytics about the subjects and problems of knowledge in the field of history and civilization
  2. To raise qualified people who are capable of original research on current issues and problems related to the field of history and civilization.
  3. To bring in experts who have absorbed the values of their own history and civilization, who are sensitive to the problems of their civilization and who can take responsibility.
  4. To ensure students being equipped to investigate their historical background and values of civilization based on scientific principles.

Degree and Level Awarded

Students who complete the requirements of the program receive a master's degree.

Admission Requirements

-Undergraduate degree,

-Get at least 55 points from ALES (SÖZ-EA-SAY point type),

-No foreign language requirement is required,

- International / foreign candidates are required to obtain a TÖMER C1 certificate from the Turkish Education Centers of the universities since the program's language is Turkish.

-The weekday lessons of this program are given at the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Halkalı campus. In case of a sufficient number of applications, courses can also be given at the Altunizade campus.

Graduation Requirements

Students who successfully complete their courses can graduate if they write an original master thesis and defend this thesis in front of the jury and are successful.
Recognition of Prior Learning

The undergraduates who meet the requirements for application to the History and Civilization Studies Graduate Program and who are successful in the entrance exam to the program are accepted to the program. Upon the recommendation of the exam jury and the approval of the head of the department, they enroll in the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Graduate Education Institute, Department of History and Civilization Studies, Graduate Education Program.

Employment Opportunities

Those who have scientific expertise in the field of History and Civilization Studies can work with the title of historian and Ottoman Turkish specialist in public institutions and organizations such as universities, Presidency State Archives, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Directorate of Religious Affairs, Museums and development agencies.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates can do their doctorate in the field of History and Civilization Studies.
