About the Program

Clinical Psychology Master program is a program that can evaluate abnormal behavior in line with current scientific developments, be aware of this by internalizing its ethical responsibilities, keep itself up-to-date in line with social needs, pursue methodical knowledge, understand and apply research methods, gain theoretical and practical skills, It aims to train clinical psychology specialists equipped with the knowledge and skills at a high level. Beyond these, the graduates who have completed the clinical psychology master's program are expected to serve our country as experts who are beneficial to humanity and know how to take responsibility.

After the theoretical courses taken in the first year, psychotherapy practices carried out under supervision in the second year are carried out in the Psychological Interview Laboratory of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University in Halkalı Campus. Students who have completed the clinical psychology master's program have the opportunity to work as a psychologist in various state institutions and private sector.

It consists of seven courses of twenty-one hours, a graduate seminar and a thesis study. (Total 120 ECTS and an average of 2.50 and above) The normal duration of completing this program is 4 semesters and the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

Students who complete the course phase submit a thesis proposal to the Institute before starting their thesis. After their thesis proposals are accepted by the Institute, they are entitled to start their thesis.

  1. To have theoretical and practical competences with the sources containing the latest information in the literature.
  2. To learn how to assess abnormal behaviors in the light of recent scientific developments
  3. To train practitioners who are highly aware of their ethical responsibilities.
  4. To internalize the ethical responsibilities
  5. To provide an education in the light of current scientific knowledge observing the social needs.
  6. To be able to comprehend and apply research methods in the field of clinical psychology
  7. To obtain the ability of psychological assessment and evaluation
  8. To obtain psychotherapy and clinical interview skills
  9. To train experts in the field of clinical psychology who are equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills
  10. Developing the ability to critically interpret the information learned throughout her/his education life.
  11. To gain the ability to internalize social, scientific and cultural values within the scope of ethical principles and to apply them in business and social life.
  12. To gain the ability to be sensitive in social issues and to develop projects that will produce solutions to problems related to the field.
  13. The students who receive support from the current literature will be able to interpret and define their new learning from a scientific point of view in a methodical manner and improve their capacity to contribute.
  14. Gaining the ability to take responsibility in the environment in which he / she works in his / her field.

  10. Be able to effectively use technology, information and communication tools at the level required by the field of Clinical Psychology and keep itself up to date in technology equipment by following developments.
  11. Have the knowledge and skills to make measurement and clinical evaluation.
  12. Demonstrate an appropriate and professional attitude towards the consultant, supervisor, instructor and colleagues.
  13. Gain sensitivity to ethical issues of Clinical Psychology and learn and fulfill their professional responsibilities in accordance with international standards in this field.
  14. By taking individual and group supervision, he/she gains knowledge, skills and experience that can manage the dynamics of the therapy process, create solutions for unforeseen problems that may be encountered, and take responsibility.

Degree and Level Awarded

Students who have successfully completed this program are eligible to receive a degree (Master of Arts) in clinical psychology.

Admission Requirements

-To be a psychology graduate,

-Get at least 60 points from ALES (EA-point type),

-To get a score of at least 55 from YDS or YÖKDİL (English) or an equivalent score from the foreign language (English) exam accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM or at least 55 from the English Language Proficiency Exam to be held by IZU.

Candidates who score at least 50 points in the Science Assessment Exam are taken to the interview exam. The candidate must get at least 70 points as a result of the General Evaluation.

-The courses of this program are given at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Halkalı campus. In case of sufficient number of applications, courses can also be given at Altunizade campus.

Graduation Requirements

It consists of seven courses of twenty-one hours, a graduate seminar and a thesis study. (Total 120 ECTS and an average of 2.50 and above) The normal duration of completing this program is 4 semesters and the maximum duration is 6 semesters.

Students who complete the course phase submit a thesis proposal to the Institute before starting their thesis. After their thesis proposals are accepted by the Institute, they are entitled to start their thesis.

In order to graduate, students enrolled in Master's Programs must fulfill at least one of the following conditions before the thesis defense exam.

A paper presented at national or international scientific meetings,
An article published in a refereed / indexed journal, accepted for publication or with a DOI number,
A paper presented at the symposiums organized by IZU in the Social / Science fields.
The publication should be about the thesis subject of the student or a subject related to the department.
In publications, the approval of the thesis advisor must be obtained.
Publications must have the name of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

Recognition of Prior Learning

- Psychology undergraduate graduates

- The undergraduate graduation grade point average must be at least 2.70 out of 4 or at least 70.00 out of 100

Employment Opportunities

The target of the department is to graduate psychologists who can provide proper support for the changing needs of the society on time. Graduates from our department will be eagered to start their own business while, with the support of the University, opportunies like part-time jobs and internships will also be provided so as to be available for our graduates to take positions in organizational work settings.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their master's education can study in doctoral programs provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.
