Course Objective
This course aims to enable master’s students to examine and critically evaluate contemporary human rights issues from the perspectives of social work and social policy, based on the historical, philosophical, legal, and social foundations of human rights.
The course aims to enable students to analyze contemporary social issues on the basis of human rights, social justice, equality, and human dignity and to evaluate the effects of human rights violations on individuals, families, groups, and societies at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. In this context, rights-based, preventive, and advocacy-oriented approaches in social work will be linked to contemporary human rights issues.
The course also aims to enable students to evaluate contemporary human rights issues such as migration and forced displacement, poverty and social exclusion, access to rights for disadvantaged groups, discrimination, digitalization and artificial intelligence, privacy and data security, disasters and crises, and cultural and social diversity within the context of national and international developments.
Within this framework, students are expected to relate national and international human rights instruments and protection mechanisms to contemporary issues, compare practices across different countries, and critically and academically evaluate rights-based social work and social policy approaches to contemporary human rights challenges.
Course Content
This course examines contemporary human rights issues emerging in the 21st century on the basis of the historical, philosophical, legal, and social foundations of human rights. Human rights issues are addressed from social work and social policy perspectives at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. The course also examines national and international human rights mechanisms, access to rights for disadvantaged groups, migration, poverty, digitalization, artificial intelligence, disasters, and crises through rights-based and comparative perspectives.

The content of this course; Our course titled “Human Rights and Current Problems” is the first stage of understanding and understanding human “SHZ 529 / Human Rights and Current Problems” lessons 9. Week - 14. The lessons will be processed within the scope of the titles of the assignments that will be distributed in the context of the lesson throughout the week. Dec. The subject is the first lesson day (1. Week) will be decided by meeting with the students.
Students will come to the “SHZ 529 / Human Rights and Current Issues“ courses as preliminary preparation, taking into account the contents given under the “Preliminary Preparation" headings specified for the next week.
“SHZ 529 / Human Rights and Current Issues“ courses will be accessible from the ”Material" section of the KBS (Campus Information System) after the completion of each course.

Reminders about Attending Classes:
• There is a 70% attendance/participation requirement for this related course.
• Until the midterm exam (8 Dec. If the course attendance is below 70% (per week), a deduction will be made based on the determined course grade (-10%).
• Until the midterm exam (Dec.8). If the course attendance is below 50% (weekly), a deduction will be made over the determined course grade (-20%).
• Until the final exam (16. If the total attendance of the two semesters is below 70%, and the total attendance rate remains below 70% without any excuse (a valid report), the student's assignment may be considered invalid. In this case, the fact that the student is in a group will not be considered a sufficient reason.

* Assignments In case of group assignments; it is possible that students in the group may receive different grades. Grades will be given by taking into account the students' participation in the homework in the group and the performance they will show at the point of presentations (their foundation in the subject).
* Individual and/or group assignments that need to be prepared in the context of this related course will be taken in written (Word-File) and presentations (PowerPoint) from all students in a digital environment. When there is a situation that requires printing, this issue will be decided by discussing it with the students.
* Individual and /or group assignments that will be taken instead of the Midterm (Midterm Exam) grade will be submitted as a WORD digital file. Dec.
