Course Objective
This course aims to strengthen graduate students’ research literacy by developing their ability to critically review academic journal articles and theses, report findings in an academic format, and present effectively. In the first half of the semester, core research competencies (research process, literature searching, methodology, ethics, and applied use of the thesis writing guide) are covered through guided workshops; in the second half, students present an article and a thesis from their own research area and complete a research proposal report in thesis/proposal format by the end of the term.
Course Content
This seminar course is designed to develop graduate students’ research literacy. In the first part, students engage in guided, applied work on the research process, formulating research problems and questions, literature search strategies, foundational methodology (quantitative/qualitative/mixed methods), research ethics and academic integrity, and the university’s thesis writing guide. In the second part, students critically review and present a selected journal article and a thesis from their own field, participate in structured peer feedback, and produce a research proposal report in thesis/proposal format by the end of the semester.
