Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce theoretical approaches to clinical observation and interviewing and to equip students with the observation and interviewing skills required in clinical assessment and psychotherapy processes. The course also aims to help students learn the fundamental principles and stages of clinical interviewing and develop essential knowledge and practical skills in therapeutic communication, initial interviewing, mental status examination, clinical assessment, risk assessment, report writing, and the ethical conduct of clinical interviews.

Course Content

The course covers the fundamental principles and stages of clinical interviewing, preparation for the interview, the therapeutic relationship, active listening and basic communication skills, questioning and guidance techniques, initial interviewing and history taking, report writing, mental status examination, diagnostic assessment and treatment planning, suicide risk assessment, working with challenging clients, ethical principles, and online and face-to-face clinical interviewing.

Explanations

The final exam grade is determined by:

40% midterm exam

60% final exam

Rules

70% attendance is mandatory. This percentage must be achieved to be eligible to take the final exam.
