Course Objective

The purpose of this lesson is to study and examine the Ottoman administration and conquests of Selim, the Grim and Süleyman, the Lawgiver that had impact on the social and economic standards of Ottoman society. We will further examine and analyse the foundation and improvement of the socio-economic institutions of Ottoman Empire, and how far these institutions were instrumental in the rise, recess and fall of the Empire.

As such we will aim at improving the analytical ability of the students.         

Course Content

The actual content of this class will be to examine social and economic dynamics of Ottoman Empire that rose to its zenith through the conquests of Sultan Selim, the Grim and Sultan Suleyman, the Magnificent through their conquest in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa.

In this class we will concentrate on the topics that will enable the students to grasp how were the social and economic institutions of Ottoman Empire were functioning in order to improve the social and economic standards of Ottoman society.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. The purpose of this lesson is to concentrate on the topics that will enable the students to grasp how the social and economic institutions of Ottoman Empire were functioning and the role they had in improving the social and economic standards of Ottoman society. In this class students will improve their analytical approach to the topics. In this class students will be able to analyse and comprehend the topics.
