Course Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about surgical diseases, enable them to identify the care needs of patients requiring surgical nursing care, develop appropriate solutions based on these needs, implement nursing interventions, and acquire essential nursing skills required in surgical units. In addition, the course aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to assess the physiological, psychological, and social needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods, using a holistic approach to enhance the quality of care.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Able to cooperate and communicate effectively with the patient, patient family and multidisciplinary team members in the care of the surgical patient.
- Can define the general health status of the surgical patient, plan appropriate interventions in case of health problems, and determine priorities in meeting their needs.
- May assume other roles within the surgical process (educator, case manager, counselor, advocate) to ensure participation of the surgical patient and family in the care process.
