Rules to be followed in Laboratory Practice
In order not to overlap the application days and hours of the courses during laboratory practice, the laboratory program of the course is made by the responsible lecturer of each course at the beginning of the semester and a common laboratory program is created by submitting it to the head of the department. The rules to be followed by the instructor and students are given below.
Rules to be followed before Laboratory
Responsibilities of the Instructor
➢ Groups students according to the number of instructors.
➢ Determines the instructors for laboratory practice, matches them with student groups, prepares the work schedule/program.
➢ Uploads the process steps and, if any, the application videos of the daily applications of the course in the laboratory to the Campus Information System for student access.
➢ Ensures that the work schedule/program is announced to the student and hangs it at the entrance of the laboratory.
➢ Checks and prepares the necessary tools and consumables for the planned skill practice and makes them available to the student.
➢ Explain the rules to the students and the students undertake to accept these rules.
Student Responsibilities
➢ Follows/studies the training material sent by the instructor of the course.
➢ Reads the process steps.
Student Responsibilities
➢ Participates in laboratory practices in a white coat.
Follows the hours set for the application.
➢ Brings the skill checklist/skill report card with him/her.
➢ Performs the practice at least once under the supervision of the instructor and repeats it if necessary.
Gives feedback to the instructor immediately after the application.
➢ Throws the waste in the appropriate waste bin.
➢ Silences and does not use the mobile phone.
➢ Does not bring food and drink to the laboratory.
➢ When working with solutions such as alcohol, betadine, lubricant gel, etc., does not put his/her hands on his/her face and mouth.
➢ Cannot take materials out of the laboratory without permission.
➢ Informs the instructor in charge of the course in case of sharps injuries.
➢ Does not leave the laboratory without permission from the instructor.
➢ Do not take unauthorized photographs, audio and video recordings during the applications.
Rules to be followed after the Laboratory
Responsibilities of the Instructor
➢ Ensures that the materials used in practice are cleaned and put in their places.
➢ Controls the proper disposal of medical and general waste.
➢ Makes a list of missing materials and forwards it to the head of the department.
➢ Keeps a record of any broken or damaged materials and forwards it to the head of the department.
➢ Checks and maintains the devices and fixtures in the laboratory.
➢ Locks the door after using the laboratory.
➢ Ensures that the materials to be washed such as sheets, pique, patient pajamas are delivered to the laundry.
➢ Receives incoming materials according to the requested list.
Student Responsibilities
➢ Collects the materials used after the practice.
➢ Returns the tools and equipment used such as chairs and stools to their original order after the application.
➢ Ensures that the skills he/she exhibits are recorded in his/her report card.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Makes patient assessment in accordance with the nursing process and prepares an individualized nursing care plan.
- Develops a holistic approach to patient care within the framework of the nursing model based on life activities.
- Performs basic infection control practices such as hand washing, sterile field creation, use of personal protective equipment within the scope of providing and maintaining a safe environment.
- Applies mobilization techniques such as appropriate positioning, transfer from bed to stretcher and chair to meet the movement needs of patients.
- Identifies care needs for personal hygiene and performs basic care practices such as oral care, hair bathing, perineal care and full body bathing.
- Measures body temperature, pulse and blood pressure by evaluating vital signs and evaluates the results.
- Evaluates the respiratory system and applies supportive interventions (oxygen administration, aspiration, deep breathing and cough exercises).
- Performs oral, local and parenteral drug administration methods safely.
- Applies venous blood sampling and venous catheter application with appropriate techniques.
- Provides gastric intubation, nasogastric feeding and drug administration processes for patients who need nutritional support.
- Performs procedures such as urinary catheter application, urine sampling, using a slide, enema application and stoma care within the scope of interventions for urinary and intestinal excretory system.
- Prioritizes patient comfort and safety and individual safety by adopting ethical and safe practices in patient care.
