MUH 302 - Interdisciplinary Research and Practice Design

Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences · Industrial Engineering (English 30%) · Undergraduate

ECTS: 3 T+P+L: 1+0+0 Compulsory
Coordinator: Doç. Dr. Sinem GÜLER

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students from different disciplines to integrate their knowledge, skills, and perspectives in order to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to real-world problems. Throughout the course, students are expected to enhance their abilities in interdisciplinary teamwork, problem identification, research, design thinking, project planning, prototyping, and project management. Furthermore, the course aims to provide students with hands-on experience in user-centered design processes while considering technical, economic, environmental, and social dimensions, and to equip them with the skills required to present their projects according to professional standards.

Course Content

Each student, working in a group of at least two members and under the supervision and guidance of the course instructor(s) or responsible academic staff, identifies an interdisciplinary project topic that incorporates the knowledge and methods specific to their own discipline. The group develops the project through software, hardware, and/or practical implementation components, prepares a project report, and presents the outcomes collectively as a team.

Required Resources

All necessary resources related to the group study topic that will be determined within the scope of the course.

Recommended Resources

All necessary resources related to the group study topic that will be determined within the scope of the course

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Teamwork involves at least two disciplines. (Note: Students from only Computer and Software Engineering departments cannot develop projects together.)
  2. It improves interdisciplinary communication and decision-making skills.
  3. Manages project development processes.
  4. It proposes innovative engineering solutions with universal and societal impacts.
  5. Develops risk management strategies.
  6. Applies design and application-oriented thinking methods.
  7. Solves a common problem by analyzing it with contributions from participating disciplines.
