Important Announcement for Thesis Master's Students whose Normal-Maximum Study Period Will Expire In the Thesis Master's programs of our Institute, the thesis supervisors of students who have completed the standard study period of four semesters or a maximum study period of six semesters (excluding Scientific Preparation, Registration Suspension, and Additional Time) as of the end of the Spring Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year are required to submit the Word version of the thesis to the Thesis Control Team by the end of office hours on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the latest. Theses submitted after May 10, 2024, will not be accepted. The forms for the thesis defense of thesis master's students graduating in the Spring semester must be submitted by the Head of the Department to the Graduate Education Institute by Friday, May 31, 2024. Students in this situation must fulfill the publication requirement before May 31, 2024. The thesis master students who will graduate in the Spring semester must take the thesis defense exam by Friday, July 05, 2024. Last Submission Date for Thesis Control May 10, 2024 Last Submission Date for Thesis Defense Documents May 31, 2024 Deadline for Fulfilling the Publication Requirement May 31, 2024 Last Day of Thesis Defense Examinations July 05, 2024 Requirements for Completion of Master's Thesis Students must have at least seven courses and one Seminar course (a total of 60 ECTS) together with a minimum GPA of 2.50 to take the thesis defense exam. In accordance with the decision of IZU Senate dated 18.09.2017 and numbered 2017/21; Starting from the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, students enrolled in master's and doctoral programs with the thesis within the Graduate School Institute are required to fulfill the publication requirement. The title of the thesis determined by the student together with their advisor must be listed in the Campus Information System for the thesis master's program. Checking for Plagiarism and Compliance with Thesis Writing Rules for Completed Master's Theses The primary responsibility for the preparation of the thesis in accordance with the Thesis Writing Guidelines belongs to the student and thesis supervisor. Thesis Control Team members are responsible for formal control of the final drafts of theses. The thesis, written in accordance with the Graduate School Institute's thesis writing guide, should be sent to the advisor by the student via email. The thesis supervisor must e-mail their student's thesis to the Thesis Control Team members. Click here for thesis control e-mail addresses. Theses that do not comply with the Thesis Writing Guideline and/or those similarity reports exceeding 20% must be corrected and submitted within five days. The Thesis Control Team Members will not control the thesis more than three times. All responsibility in this regard belongs to the thesis supervisor and the student. It must be noted that singular similarities must not exceed 1% in the plagiarism report. Institutional thesis supervisors must submit the documents of the thesis master's students who will graduate to the Graduate Education Institute via the ÜBYS system. External thesis advisors must submit the documents of graduate thesis students who will graduate to the Head of the Department. In Case of Period Extension and Failure Students, who are not able to complete their thesis until May 10, 2024, within their normal study period of four semesters and extend their thesis submission to the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, are required to pay tuition for one course for the extension period. (No discount will be applied to the tuition fee paid for the extension period.) This situation is valid for the Spring Semester of the 2024-2025 Academic Year, the second extension period. Students, who have failed in thesis study or have not been able to take the thesis defense exam within the maximum study period of six semesters, will be dismissed from the University. According to the 1st and 2nd paragraphs of Article 9 of the IZU Graduate Education and Training Regulations; (1) The duration of the master's program with thesis is four semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program enrolled in the program are given, regardless of whether they are registered for each semester, except for the period spent in scientific preparation, and the program is completed in a maximum of six semesters. (2) The student who has failed to complete credit courses and one Seminar course or has not been able to fulfill the success criteria determined by the University, and who has failed in thesis study or has not been able to take thesis defense exam within the maximum period of study will be disenrolled from the University.

2023-2024 Spring Semester Normal-Maximum Tuition Period Will Expire Important Announcement for PhD Students In the doctoral programs of our Institute, the thesis supervisors of students, who have completed the standard study period of eight semesters or a maximum study period of twelve semesters (excluding Scientific Preparation, Suspension of Registration, and Additional Time) by the end of the Spring Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, are required to submit the Word version of the thesis to the Thesis Control Team by the end of office hours on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the latest. Theses submitted after May 10, 2024, will not be accepted. The thesis defense forms of doctoral students who will graduate in the spring semester must be submitted by the Head of the Department to the Graduate Education Institute by Friday, May 31, 2024. Students in this situation must fulfill the publication requirement before May 31, 2024. Doctoral students who will graduate in the spring semester must take the thesis defense exam by Friday, July 5, 2024. The students, who have not submitted their thesis proposal to the Graduate Education Institute through their thesis supervisors on time, will not be able to take the thesis defense exam even if they have completed their thesis. According to IZU Graduate Education and Teaching Regulation; Finalizing the doctoral thesis ARTICLE 24 - (1) A student in the doctorate program writes the results obtained in accordance with the institute thesis writing guide and defends his thesis orally before the exam jury. (2) Before the defense of the doctoral thesis and in the theses given correction, the student completes the thesis with the correction and submits it to the advisor. The advisor presents the thesis and plagiarism report to the institute with a written opinion that the thesis is defensible and has been written in accordance with the institute thesis writing guide. In case of a real plagiarism in the data in the report, the thesis is sent to the institute board of directors to be decided together with its justification. (3) In order for the student's thesis to be finalized, three successful thesis monitoring committee reports must be submitted at least every six months. If the thesis monitoring is not done on time, the student is deemed unsuccessful from the thesis monitoring result of that period. (4) Doctoral thesis exam jury is appointed with the recommendation of the advisor and the head of the department and the approval of the institute board of directors. The exam jury consists of five faculty members, including three lecturers on the student's thesis monitoring committee including advisor., and at least two of them from outside the University If the advisor is from another higher education institution, the exam jury must consist of one faculty member outside the university and four faculty members inside the university. The institute board of directors decides whether the consultant has the right to vote. If the advisor does not have the right to vote, the exam jury consists of six faculty members. In addition, the second thesis supervisor can take part in the exam jury without the right to vote. (5) The members of the exam jury gather at the earliest fifteen days and at the latest one month from the date the thesis is delivered to them, and takes the student to the thesis defense. The thesis defense exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work and the question-answer section that follows. Thesis defense meetings are open to the participation of lecturers, graduate students and experts from the field. (6) After the completion of the thesis exam, the jury of the exam is closed to the audience and it decides to accept, reject or correct the thesis with absolute majority. Students whose thesis is accepted are evaluated as successful. This decision is notified to the institute by the department within three days following the thesis exam. The student whose thesis is unsuccessful and rejected is dismissed from the University. The student, who got a correction advice on his thesis, makes the necessary corrections within six months at the latest and defends his thesis before the same exam jury. The student who fails in this defense is dismissed from the University. Those who have not been successful in the thesis but admitted to the Ph.D with an undergraduate degree, may get according to first paragraph of Article 16 a master diploma without thesis.
