Information on the Program
Spiritual Counseling and Guidance Department opened under that name in Turkey is the first thesis and non-thesis master's program.
In this program,
Having theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of psychology and psychological counseling, having a knowledge and skill to establish the relationship between psychology and spirituality,
Having knowledge and skills about spiritual counseling practices,
Sensitive to professional ethical principles,
Having scientific research and writing skills,
It is aimed to develop the consultancy service areas demanded by today's people and to train experts who will provide services in our country in the field of spiritual consultancy, which has examples in the world and is applied successfully.
Graduation Requirements
It consists of seven twenty-one-hour courses, a graduate seminar and a thesis. (Total 120 ECTS) The normal duration of completing this program is 4 semesters and the maximum duration is 6 semesters.
Compulsory scientific preparation is applied in our Master's Program.
Students who complete the course phase submit a thesis proposal to the Institute before starting their thesis. After their thesis proposals are accepted by the Institute, they are entitled to start their thesis.
Graduation Requirements
Students enrolled in the Master's Programs must fulfill at least one of the following conditions before the thesis defense exam in order to graduate.
A paper presented at national or international scientific meetings,
An article published in a refereed / indexed journal, accepted for publication or with a DOI number,
A paper presented at the symposiums organized by IZU in the Social / Science fields.
The publication should be about the thesis subject of the student or a subject related to the department.
In publications, the approval of the thesis advisor must be obtained.
Publications must have the name of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
Purpose of the Program
The purpose of Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (Thesis / Non-Thesis) Master's Program is; It is the development of the consultancy service areas demanded by today's people, and the training of experts who will provide services in our country in the field of spiritual consultancy, which has examples in the world and is applied successfully. The Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR) master's program with and without thesis does not promise any job to its graduates. The employment of graduates from these departments depends on the decisions taken by the relevant institutions.
Graduates of theology, Islamic sciences, psychology, psychological counseling and guidance departments of related faculties will be able to apply to Spiritual Counseling and Guidance Master's program.
Foreign language requirement is not required for applying to the Master's program with and without thesis in Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR).
In Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR) graduate programs with and without thesis, a one-semester scientific preparation program will be applied.
In Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR) master's program with thesis, those who score 55 and above in ALES Equal Weight Score Type can apply.
ALES score is not required for applying to the Non-Thesis Master's Program in Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR).
In the event that there is an application above the quota specified for the Master's program with and without thesis in Spiritual Counseling and Guidance (MDR), a science exam and an oral interview are made and student selection can be done.
Students who will take MDR graduate preparatory courses will be able to take preparatory courses individually, and when necessary, they will be able to take these courses with undergraduate students when the number of classes is reached in line with the decision of the department.
MDR Master's courses will be scheduled on weekday evenings and / or on weekends on Saturdays at the Halkalı central campus. However, if there is sufficient demand, a class can be opened in Altunizade campus. In addition, daytime classes can be opened in both campuses, upon sufficient demand. The curriculum depends on the number of students each semester, the qualifications of the courses to be opened, etc. It may vary depending on the conditions.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Students who can document that they have taken scientific preparation courses at undergraduate level before have the right to be exempted from the relevant courses.
Likewise, students who document the courses they have taken from the master's department of another university have the right to exemption.
Exemption decisions are made by the exemption commission determined by the department.
Employment Opportunities
Spiritual Counseling and Guidance needed in today's Turkey Higher Education Council (YOK) within an academic department recognized both areas is also a respected profession recognized by law. Article 7 of the Law No. 633 on the Establishment and Duties of the Presidency of Religious Affairs clearly includes the expression "Spiritual Consultancy", the responsibility of providing this service as a constitutional institution is given to the Directorate of Religious Affairs and the application area and details are explained. Likewise, on October 25, 2019, the Spiritual Counseling occupational standard was reviewed by the Vocational Qualifications Authority (MYK) Health and Social Services Sector Committee, and approved by the VQA Board of Directors and was published in the Official Gazette Date-Number / 25.10.2019 - 30929 (Repeated) with reference code 19UMS0728-6. and published as "Spiritual Counselor (Level 6) National Occupational Standard".
As a result, our graduates are trained to work within institutions that provide employment in the field of spiritual counseling, such as penal institutions, social service institutions, credit dormitories institution, and especially under the Presidency of Religious Affairs.

Our graduates from the master's department with thesis can continue their doctorate education in other departments that meet the admission requirements.
