Course Objective

This course; It aims to examine the study of Islamic sciences and Arabic language and literature as a whole in scientific studies in terms of history, method, thought, copyright and content.

Course Content

By examining the basic sources of the literature developed in the Arabic language, the position stand in the Islamic science tradition, and the methods of using them in a scientific research, it questions the integrity of the Arabic language and Islamic sciences in the production of knowledge. Since this course is opened under the Basic Islamic Sciences, it reveals the effort to gain a general perspective. It endeavors to make the participant gain the ability to establish the relationship between language and Islamic sciences and the basic works in the context of Arabic Language and Literature in his scientific studies, especially his thesis. For this reason, short and Turkish works that convey the concept rather than deep and long sources were used in the course. These works are not required to be read. Different works with the same content can be used. The important thing is to come up with pre-readings that can contribute to the discussion within the lesson. However, the bibliography must be diversified in the discussion and processing of the course. In addition, special readings can be given to those who want to do their work in this field. Finally, it should be noted that after this table, there is a general reading list about our topic. The course is designed according to the discussion of certain topics within the framework of specific questions every week. Therefore, preparation is expected around the given questions of the relevant topics while reading the resources and discussing the issues. The weekly distribution of the course has been planned in three stages as “Nazariyye”, “Tatbîq” and “Ta‘lîq and İstidlâl”. Readings will be made for background and mental background in theory. In practice, the literature will be discussed directly. At the last stage, interpretations about other sciences, Arabic language and studies will be included.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students learn about the possibility of scientific exegesis.
  2. The student learns about modern commentary approaches.
  3. The student learn about the acquis that occurs in the historical process at the point of understanding and interpreting the Quran.
  4. Students learn about the different schools of exegesis that emerged in the history of Tafsir.
