Course Objective

The primary aim of the course of Islamic philosophy is to show students what kind of relationship there is between Islam and philosophy and that Islam has a unique philosophical perspective. Therefore, as a truth study, it will be tried to show what philosophy is, what the a priori conditions of philosophy are and whether Islam can provide these a priori conditions. The possible meanings of the composition of Islamic philosophy, which of these meanings can be defended historically, and what kind of relationship exists between Islam as a religion and philosophy as a human activity will be clarified. The place of philosophy in the mental geography of Islamic thought and its relation with other disciplines such as theology and knowledge will be revealed in detail. Thus, it is aimed that students understand that Islam has a unique philosophical perspective. This will be revealed through the main issues of Islamic Philosophy.

Course Content

The content of the course of Islamic philosophy is what philosophy is, the absolute and limited philosophy distinction, the reason for the fraction in philosophy, how philosophy is possible as an effort to reach the truth of things, the a priori conditions of philosophy, the different meanings of the composition of Islamic philosophy, which of these meanings is defensible, It consists of subjects such as mental geography and the place and meaning of philosophy in this geography, ontological and epistemological acceptances that make philosophy possible.

The course of Islamic philosophy is a course with a predominance of theoretical and historical aspects. You need to do preliminary readings in order to make the most of this course. It will be beneficial for you to make conceptual readings that will improve your abstract thinking skills.

Rules

Class attendance is essential. Students who will not attend the course are required to declare their excuses in advance.

The student is expected to participate actively.

  2. Students can make sense of God, the universe and human beings, and offer solutions, taking into account the past and modern examples.
  3. Students learn about the historical development and main problems of Islamic thought. They gain a certain understanding of the Islamic understanding of existence, knowledge and value, and gain equipment to bring this together with contemporary interp
