Course Objective
To provide an in-depth understanding of the Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish phases, which encompass the oldest written records of the Turkish language, stretching from the 7th century to the late 12th century. To teach the linguistic features of the Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish phases and to introduce texts reflecting these features. To introduce the Orkhon and Old Uyghur alphabets used for writing the Turkish language during the Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish phases and to conduct linguistic analyses of these texts.
Course Content
The environment that prepared Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish, which formed Old Turkish. The linguistic characteristics and productivity of Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish. The alphabets used in writing Orkhon and Old Uyghur Turkish and the reading of texts written in these alphabets.
