SOS 431 - Poverty and Inequality

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the basic concepts of sociology, poverty and inequality from different perspectives, to draw attention of the students to the subject and to provide the students with the literature and main discussions on the subject.

Course Content

In the first part of this course, alongside poverty and inequality and classical conceptual discussion about the new faces of poverty in the world and Turkey to combat poverty and social policies will be discussed. The second part will focus on the sociological discussion of the cultural sphere of literature, cinema and books on poverty and inequality. At the end of the course, students will be able to follow the discussion of poverty and inequality in the world and in Turkey. At the same time, it is aimed to develop a comprehensive perspective to understand the social world by establishing the relationship between poverty and inequality and other sociological concepts.
