Course Objective
The aim of this course is to present major theories and perspectives on human personality in a historical context. The evaluation of the effects of scientific, social, biological, cultural and historical factors which are effective in the formation of these theories
Course Content
The course examines the definition of personality, its place within the discipline of psychology, its major areas of study, and the methods used in personality assessment. It also explores Freud’s classical psychoanalytic approach, ego psychology, Jung’s analytical psychology, Adler’s individual psychology, Horney’s holistic approach, Sullivan’s interpersonal theory, existential approaches, and Fromm’s humanistic psychoanalytic perspective, with particular emphasis on their core concepts and explanations of personality development.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Gaining fundamental knowledge regarding the nature, functioning, and measurement of human personality.
- Explaining the general assumptions of basic personality theories that have emerged throughout the history of psychology and remain accepted today.
- Analyzing and evaluating human behavior according to the perspectives of various personality theories, such as Psychoanalytic, Analytical, and Individual psychology.
- Conceptual Mastery: Defining key concepts such as the definition of personality, its fields of study, and personality assessment within the framework of psychological science.
- Comparison of Classical Approaches: Distinguishing the similarities and differences between the approaches of theorists such as Freud, Jung, Adler, Horney, Sullivan, and Fromm.
- Monitoring Historical Processes: Interpreting the theoretical, historical, and philosophical foundations in the development of personality psychology.
