Course Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the scientific and theoretical foundations of cognitive-behavioral psychology and to evaluate the interplay between behavior, cognition, and emotion within the framework of learning theories, information processing models, and cognitive science. The course also aims to develop students’ ability to analyze the cognitive, environmental, social, and neurobiological mechanisms that shape human behavior in light of scientific research.
Course Content
This course covers the scientific and theoretical foundations of cognitive-behavioral psychology. The course examines classical and operant conditioning, social learning, information processing, attention, perception, schemas, belief systems, memory processes, and cognitive biases. Additionally, the course covers attribution theories, learned helplessness, the mind-emotion interaction, self-regulation, executive functions, metacognition, personality, and social cognition. The final section of the course evaluates the school-based formulations of cognitive and behavioral processes, psychopathologies, and treatment models.

Explanations
Exams will be conducted as midterms (40%) and finals (60%). Questions will be planned in various formats, including open-ended, multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, true/false, and matching.
Rules
Attendance at classes is mandatory and must be at least 70%.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Being able to explain the historical development, basic concepts, and theoretical principles of cognitive-behavioral psychology
- Being able to conceptualize a case using a cognitive model by establishing the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
- Learning how the cognitive-behavioral approach is applied in common clinical conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders
- Understanding the steps involved in recognizing and applying basic CBT techniques, such as identifying automatic thoughts, cognitive restructuring, and keeping a thought diary
