Course Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge and competencies regarding the fundamental concepts and functions of business. Within the scope of the course, it is intended that students gain a basic understanding of core business and economic concepts, factors of production, internationalization, and entrepreneurship, as well as the main business functions including management, accounting, finance, marketing, and human resource management. In addition, the course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the business world, and to foster an entrepreneurial culture and innovative thinking skills.
Course Content
The course content is as follows: definition of business, factors of production, and types of businesses. It also covers the perspectives of shareholder theory and stakeholder theory, as well as a macro-level view of businesses through systems thinking. In addition, the course includes the general (remote) environment of businesses and the close (industry) environment, basic competitive strategies in businesses and how firms primarily generate profit, and general economic terms. The distinction between national, international, and global businesses, as well as methods of internationalization, are also addressed. Furthermore, the course covers management functions, organizational structures, leadership, and motivation; the accounting and finance functions of a business along with basic financial statements; human resource management functions; the marketing function and the components of the marketing mix; and finally entrepreneurship and types of entrepreneurship.
