Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide nursing students with knowledge about the historical development, organization, and legal, ethical, and political aspects of home care services, and to support their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of nurses within the home care team. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to develop the ability to assess the home care needs of different patient groups (patients with cardiac diseases, oncology patients, older adults, and individuals in the prenatal and postnatal periods), to recognize the challenges experienced by caregivers, and to plan and evaluate home care services using a holistic, ethical, and evidence-based nursing approach.

Course Content

This course covers the concept and historical development of home care, the organization of home care services, the home care team, and the roles and responsibilities of nurses, as well as home care practices worldwide and in Türkiye and the institutions and organizations providing home care services. Within the scope of the course, legal, ethical, and political issues in home care practices and the challenges experienced by formal and informal caregivers are also addressed; home care approaches for patients with cardiac diseases, oncology patients, older adults, and individuals in the prenatal and postnatal periods are examined. The planning, implementation, and evaluation of home care services are discussed within the framework of evidence-based nursing care.

  4. The patient / healthy individual and his / her family can make a health assessment and apply the nursing process
  5. Describe the physiological, psychological and social needs of the patient / healthy individual and their family (nursing care service) in the environment they live in
