MBG 307 - Molecular Genetics II

Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences · Molecular Biology and Genetics (English 30%) · Undergraduate

ECTS: 5 T+P+L: 3+0+0 Compulsory
Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Ahmet YILDIRIM

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide an in-depth exploration of the molecular mechanisms governing the gene expression, moving beyond basic inheritance to focus on complex regulatory networks and epigenetic control.

Course Content

Molecular Genetics II is the advanced continuation of Molecular Genetics I course. While MG I focused on the central dogma, macromolecular structures, and core molecular mechanisms, this course expands into regulation, maintenance, and manipulation of genetic information. Topics include gene regulation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, epigenetics, RNA-based regulation, DNA repair, mobile genetic elements, genome organization, and modern genome editing technologies.
