Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce instructional methods and techniques that can be used to support individuals with special needs in learning mathematical concepts and skills, and to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for planning, implementing, and evaluating mathematics instruction.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental aims, principles, and standards of mathematics instruction for individuals with special needs, as well as assessment processes and effective instructional methods and techniques. It addresses the teaching of prerequisite mathematics skills, natural numbers, counting, the four basic operations, problem solving, basic measurement, geometry, patterns, and data analysis. The course also focuses on individualized mathematics instruction, the use of appropriate materials and instructional techniques, and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of mathematics instruction.

NOTE 1: The short report to be prepared following the teaching practice, together with the photo(s) taken during the teaching practice, must be uploaded as a single file to the relevant section on Teams. The file must be submitted in PDF or Word format.

NOTE 2: The total of 60 points allocated to classroom teaching practices will be divided by the number of teaching practices conducted, and the score for each practice will be determined accordingly. For example, if two teaching practices are conducted, each practice will be evaluated out of 60 ÷ 2 = 30 points.

NOTE 3: For the calculation of the participation score for in-class activities, the total score will be divided by the highest number of activities conducted in the class to determine the point value of each activity.

NOTE 4: For students who are not required to attend classes, the Class Participation Score will be determined by taking the arithmetic mean of their midterm and final exam scores.
