PDR 102 - Developmental Psychology I

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain the basic knowledge about child development and to use them in daily life. For this purpose, we will examine the life of the baby starting with fertilization to adolescence. In this course, by presenting different theories about child development, these theories will be compared, physical, emotional, scientific and social development of the child will be examined and the factors affecting these variables will be discussed.

Course Content

The content of this course consists of the following topics; Development and concepts related to development, developmental tasks, physical and language development, developmental theories, and mental development etc.

Explanations

Assessment: Students will be given 1 visa and 1 final grade during the semester. In measuring students' success in classes; Attendance status, mid-term studies, quizzes, midterm exams, final exams and make-up exams are included in the evaluation.

Midterm exam: It is an exam consisting of multiple choice, short answer or long answer questions related to the topics covered in the course until the midterm exam dates specified in the academic calendar. The midterm exam will constitute 30% of the final score.

Netflix- Babies assignment: The Netflix- Babies assignment will make up 10% of the success score.

Final exam: It is an exam consisting of multiple choice, short answer or long answer questions prepared for the topics covered in the whole course. The final exam will constitute 50% of the year-end success score.

Developmental review report: Within the framework of the information learned in the course, it is expected that an individual who is in infancy or childhood will be undertaken and reported. This assignment will constitute 10% of the year-end achievement score.
Expectations: Students are expected to read the article / book chapters of that day, be prepared for the lesson, follow the lesson regularly, participate actively, and report their psychological counseling practices regularly on a weekly basis. It is forbidden to take care of the mobile phone and eat during the lesson.
Netflix- Babies assignment: In this assignment, it is expected to analyze the 6 part Babies documentary published on Netflix within the framework of the development theories discussed in the course. In the homework, detailed analysis is expected for Psychoanalytic Theories, Behavioral Theories, Cognitive Theories and Humanistic Theories. Homework Times New Roman should be prepared in 12 font size, 1.5 line spacing, titles centered and the main text two. The assignment should include the following topics:

Result
Progress review report: Each student is expected to create a progress review report under this assignment. The development review report aims to acquire the practice of the developmental characteristics of infancy and childhood periods covered by the course over 1 individual. Students are expected to identify an individual in infancy or childhood and report their physical, motor, sexual, cognitive, linguistic, emotional, social, and moral developments as a parent report within the framework of scientific criteria. It is expected to provide scientific guidance and information for the areas where developmental delays are observed, as presented to a parent in reporting.

Article 21 - (1) Students at the University; Within one semester, they are obliged to attend theoretical courses 70% and applied courses 80%. Each instructor checks the obligation to attend classes according to these principles.
