Course Objective
The course aims to introduce international economic institutions and their structures, functions and impacts (on national and international economies) as well as develop students’ skills to have an informed commentary on both academic and more popular arguments on these institutions.
By the end of the course, the students should be able to (i) explain the role international economic institutions in the process of globalization, (ii) compare the structures and functions of international economic institutions, (iii) discuss the impact of international economic institutions on national economies, (iv) discuss the impact of international economic institutions on the world economy, (v) analyze academic and popular arguments on international economic institutions.
Course Content
The topics to be covered include the following institutions: World Trade Organization, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Islamic Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, regional integrations, OECD, OPEC, G8, G20, and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

- To analyze rural development, agricultural transformation, effect of education on human capital and migration.
- To analyze the effect of foreign trade, foreign investment, and financial movements on economic development.
- To evaluate the roles of market, state and civil society.
