Understanding the structure of societies, recognizing the values that hold people and groups together, grasping the forces and factors behind social change, and analysing the social context of interpersonal relationships have long attracted interest. These subjects form the core areas of sociology, which studies societies scientifically, systematically and critically along the axes of structure, functioning, interaction and change. Sociology is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to shed light on the background of social behaviour using scientific methods. Individuals who study sociology gain the ability to analyse in greater depth different cultural, economic, religious and political structures, above all those of their own society, and the dynamics that shape and transform them. In this respect, sociology is a fundamental field of study for those interested in society and social problems.
Graduates of the Department of Sociology of the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences can teach Sociology, Logic and Psychology in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education when they meet the necessary conditions. In addition, students who successfully complete their undergraduate education can continue their academic careers by applying to master's and doctoral programmes in sociology or related fields.
