History is a discipline closely related to the social sciences that studies past social structures and events using scientific methods. Turkey’s historical richness and the diversity of sources offered by the Ottoman archives provide important opportunities for historians from all over the world. The library and archive institutions in Istanbul provide students with a strong academic and applied research infrastructure. The Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Department of History aims to train researchers who can carry out analyses based on historical knowledge and have interdisciplinary thinking skills.
Graduates of the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences can carry out academic work, teach, or work in areas requiring historical knowledge in the public and private sectors. Equipped with qualifications for employment in various fields such as archiving, museology, the media and tourism, students have the opportunity to develop their professional orientation through certificate programmes and applied training.
