The main goal of the Department of Economics is to inform its students about national and international economic developments, to contribute to their better understanding, analysis and interpretation of economic events, and to increase their problem-solving capacity.
In addition to the core economics courses that will enable our students to succeed in their education and working lives, the department also offers courses in other related fields such as business administration, finance, law, sociology, mathematics and statistics. Double major and minor opportunities are also offered to our students so that they can develop an interdisciplinary approach and be better prepared for the future. In addition, there are student exchange programmes abroad, such as Erasmus, that allow our students to gain international experience.
The Economics undergraduate programme is a 240-ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) programme with a normal duration of 4 academic years consisting of 8 semesters. 1 ECTS corresponds to a student workload of 30 (hours/semester).
Opportunities Offered to Students:
- Opportunity to learn foreign languages (free of charge),
- Opportunity to do a minor (with a scholarship for the normal duration of the major programme),
- Opportunity to do a double major (with a scholarship for the normal duration of the double major programme),
- Opportunity to study abroad through international exchange programmes (1 or 2 semesters),
- Opportunity to continue with master's programmes after graduation.

These include various high-level public institutions such as the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, the Undersecretariat of Treasury, the Capital Markets Board, Borsa Istanbul and the Participation Banks Association of Turkey. In addition, economics graduates have various career opportunities as directors, specialists or researchers in relevant ministries and research centres. Economists are also known to be the preferred choice in public and private banks and financial institutions. In addition to working as certified public accountants and financial advisers, economics graduates can become managers or economists in domestic and international companies or take on various roles in the accounting and finance departments of these companies. In addition, if they pass the relevant exams, they can serve as administrative judges and district governors. Some economics graduates prefer to work in family businesses or start their own businesses. Those who continue with master's and doctoral programmes also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career and become academics.
