Project Manager: Prof. Dr. Mustafa Nizamettin Erduran
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences / Department of Computer Engineering
Project Duration: 120 Months
Total Project Budget: 5,669,130.- Euro

The DESPEC (Decay Spectroscopy) Germanium Array Spectrometer consists of high-purity germanium detectors and will be used to detect and analyze gamma rays originating from the electromagnetic decays of exotic nuclear nuclei. This experiment will be one of the key experiments at FAIR. In DESPEC, the rare isotopes produced by the Super-FRS will be stopped at the active target (AIDA), and the entire surroundings of this target will be encircled with DEGAS to detect gamma rays arising from alpha, beta, proton, neutron, and isomeric decays. The main purpose of DEGAS is to detect gamma rays in the range of 50 keV to 5 MeV with high efficiency and resolution. Our group will work on the background-shielding detectors required here for detecting intense background radiation.
