World Disability Day Talk Held at IZU
As part of the December 3 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, İbrahim Altuntaş a student at IZU’s Faculty of Islamic Sciences and the muezzin of the Sultanahmet Mosque emphasized the importance of social awareness and society’s responsibilities toward individuals with disabilities.
The talk, titled “One of Us,” was organized by the IZU Department of Health, Culture and Sports and held at the Abdullah Tivnikli Conference Hall.
Speaking under the moderation of Social Work student Beyza Ülgen, who is also visually impaired, Altuntaş shared his life story and experiences with the audience. Stating that his family and environment always treated him as a “normal and ordinary” individual, Altuntaş explained that because of this, he was not aware of his disability until his primary school years.
