Women's Rights Symposium at İZÜ

At the “Being a Woman, Rights and Psychology Symposium” held at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, the place of women in society, the challenges they face, and their empowerment processes were discussed. In the event organized jointly by the IZU Law Club and the Young Doctors of the Earth Club, speakers from the fields of law, education, and psychology shared their evaluations on women’s rights. Addressing the issue from a legal perspective, Lawyer Sakiye Pehlivan drew attention to the importance of educating men in preventing violence against women. Dr. Cansu Köken, a faculty member of the IZU Preschool Teaching Department, stated that preschool education plays a fundamental role in individual development and emphasized that expanding education would strengthen women’s position in society. Clinical Psychologist Ş. Zelal Hermankaya expressed that the number of women’s solidarity centers should be increased, while Psychologist Esmanur Akmercan pointed out the decisive role of society in empowering women and noted that social transformation begins with language. The symposium emphasized that social awareness must be developed in all fields, especially law and education, in order to strengthen women’s rights.
