Nurullah Genç: “We Will Be the Future of Goodness”
Poet and writer Nurullah Genç met with our students at the “Chat with Youth” program held at IZU. Emphasizing hope, struggle, language awareness, and responsibility in his speech, Genç called on young people by saying, “Everyone must do their best in their own field. Be the best at what you do.”
Poet and writer Nurullah Genç was the guest of the “Chat with Youth” program held at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. The program, organized by the Islamic Economics and Finance Club, was attended by Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Erhan İçener and Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences Prof. Dr. İbrahim Güran Yumuşak, IZU Secretary General Dr. Fatih Hasdemir, academics, and students.
ERDOĞMUŞ: “NURULLAH GENÇ CARRIES OUT ACADEMIC WORK AND HIS LITERARY IDENTITY TOGETHER SUCCESSFULLY”
Speaking at the opening of the program, SKS Department Head Hülya Şekerci expressed her belief in young people, saying, “We have great hope in you. It is meaningful and valuable that you do not chase what is popular but rather pursue what is truly valuable.” Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş emphasized that Nurullah Genç is a versatile figure, stating: “He successfully carries out academic work together with his literary identity. In recent years, he has been spending a lot of time with young people. I know that he cannot say no to the requests and needs of young people. This sensitivity shows the importance he gives to youth.”
GENÇ: “IZU IS A PLACE I FEEL CLOSE TO MY SOUL AND HEART”
Beginning his speech by expressing his closeness to the university, Nurullah Genç said, “IZU is a place I feel close to my soul, my heart, and my mind. I am very happy to be here and to be with young people.” Stating that the awareness he gained during his youth shaped his life, Genç said: “I have never forgotten since those days that there are those who try to disrupt our country. Those who corrupt the world, who bomb Iran, Gaza, and Beirut; even back then, they were bombing our inner world. I made a promise to myself; I will dedicate my entire life if necessary so that the people of my country and Muslims are not oppressed.” Emphasizing that young people must also be aware of their responsibilities, Genç said: “A student in Tel Aviv or Washington receiving the same education as you must be surpassed. Otherwise, we cannot win this struggle. Everyone must be the best in their own field.”
“IF LANGUAGE IS CORRUPTED, THERE IS NO WAY TO MULTIPLY GOODNESS”
Emphasizing language and cultural awareness, Nurullah Genç continued: “Whatever history you learn, you become part of it. Whatever story you grow up with, you belong to it. If we cannot engrave beautiful words into children’s memory, they will become the children of ugly words. We must teach them beautiful words. Our language and our words have been corrupted. People whose words are corrupted cannot multiply goodness.”
