Erdoğmuş: “Career Planning Is Not Just Choosing a Profession”
IZU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş met with students in a program where he emphasized that career planning is not merely about choosing a profession, drawing attention to the importance of the questions: “Who am I, where am I going, and how can I get there?”
Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş, Vice Rector of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, came together with students in the program titled “Know Yourself, Shape Your Career,” organized by the Career Center. As the guest of the “Self-Analysis and Self-Awareness Workshop,” Erdoğmuş addressed, in an interactive session, the challenges encountered in career planning, the hesitations experienced during the process of choosing a profession and career, and the fundamental stages of future planning. Erdoğmuş highlighted the importance of answering questions such as “Am I the right person?” “Am I in the right place?” and “What suits me best?” in career planning.
WHO AM I? WHERE AM I GOING? HOW CAN I GET THERE?
Stating that a career is not merely a tool for earning income, Erdoğmuş emphasized the importance of determining priorities correctly in life. Asking students, “What kind of story do you want to leave behind?” he noted that difficulties, just like moments of happiness, contribute to the meaning of life. Reminding that the world constantly faces issues such as injustice, inequality, and disasters, Erdoğmuş pointed out that every individual has responsibilities toward humanity and that one should seek answers to the questions “Who am I? Where am I going? How can I get there?” by evaluating opportunities and threats together.
