An examination of recent applications to psychological counseling centers shows that marital problems rank among the most common concerns. Many clients express a sense of helplessness, and a deep sadness can be sensed in their eyes, their faces and their tone of voice. This picture, marked by a clear decline in life satisfaction and a growing sense of hopelessness, shows that the problem stems not only from current conflicts but also from a foundation that was not laid firmly enough in the period before marriage. For this reason, the importance of premarital psychological counseling becomes more evident with each passing day.
