ISLAMIC HISTORY AND ARTS - NON THESIS

About the Program

It consists of ten courses (3 hours per week) and master's project work (Total 90 ECTS). The normal duration of this program is 2 semesters, the maximum duration is 3 semesters.

Program Objectives & Goals

Objectives

  1. To train experts who have analytics about the subjects and problems of knowledge in the field of İslamic history and arts
  2. To raise qualified people who are capable of original research on current issues and problems related to the field of İslamic history and arts.
  3. To bring in experts who have absorbed the values of their own history and civilization, who are sensitive to the problems of their civilization and who can take responsibility.
  4. To ensure students being equipped to investigate their historical background and values of civilization based on scientific principles.

KNOWLEDGE

  1. He/She can evaluate issues such as singularity or plurality of civilization, clash, reconciliation and alliance of civilizations in the field of history and civilization studies with a political, mediatic, intellectual and critical approach.
  2. He/She can comprehend the interdisciplinary interaction related to the field of İslamic history and arts.

SKILL

  1. He/She can analyze the subject of civilization as a scientific education and research subject by considering the subject of civilization within historical context and examine the subject of history and civilization in relation to each other with different dimensions.
  2. He/She can interpret the knowledge gained in the field of İslamic history and arts by integrating it with information from different disciplines, and can create new knowledge and conduct academic work.
  3. He/She can analyze the problems encountered in the field by using research methods.

  1. He/She can independently conduct a study that requires expertise in the field of İslamic history and arts.
  2. He/She can develop new approaches for the solution of complex problems encountered in applications related to his field and to produce solutions by taking responsibility.
  3. He/She can have the ability, knowledge and skills to work effectively in teams and project groups individually and collectively.
  4. He/She can critically evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired at the level of expertise in the field of history and arts and direct his / her learning.
  5. He/She can read and evaluate the material and literature in the field carefully, critically and in depth.
  6. He/She can systematically transfer the current developments and his own studies in the field of history and arts to groups in and out of the field in written, oral and visual forms by supporting them with quantitative and qualitative data.
  7. He/She can communicate orally and in writing by using a foreign language at least at the European Language Portfolio B2 General Level.
  8. He/She can use information and communication technologies with computer software at an advanced level required by his field.
  9. He / she can develop strategies, policies and implementation plans on the subjects related to his field and evaluate the obtained results within the framework of quality processes.
  10. He / she can use the knowledge, problem solving and / or application skills they have absorbed in the field in interdisciplinary studies.
  11. He/She can inspect and teach social, scientific, cultural and ethical values in the stages of collecting, interpreting, applying and announcing data about the field of İslamic history and arts.

Degree and Level Awarded

Students who complete the requirements of the program receive a master's degree without thesis. 

Graduation Requirements

It consists of ten courses of thirty hours and graduate project work. (Total 90 ECTS) The normal duration of completing this program is 2 semesters and the maximum duration is 3 semesters.

Students who successfully complete their credit courses and term project and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 and above are awarded a master's degree without thesis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The undergraduates who meet the requirements for application to the İslamic History and Arts Masters Program Without Thesis and who are successful in the entrance exam to the program are accepted to the program. Upon the recommendation of the exam jury and the approval of the head of the department, they enroll in the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Graduate Education Institute, Department of İslamic History and Arts, Masters Program Without Thesis Education Program.

Employment Opportunities

Those who have scientific expertise in the field of İslamic History and Arts can work with the title of historian in public institutions and organizations such as universities, Presidency State Archives, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Directorate of Religious Affairs, Museums and development agencies.

Access to Further Studies

Students who complete the requirements of the program receive a master's degree without thesis.
