ISLAMIC ECONOMICS AND LAW (ARABIC) - DOCTORATE

About the Program

It consists of seven courses, seminar, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and dissertation study. (240 ECTS total) The normal duration of this program is 8 semesters and the maximum duration is 12 semesters.

a.In order for a student who is enrolled in a doctoral program to graduate, at least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled.

  1. Two papers presented at national or international scientific meetings,
  2. An article published in a peer-reviewed/ indexed journal, accepted for publication, or received a DOI number,
  3. Two papers presented at Social / Science symposiums organized by IZU.

Degree and Level Awarded

Students who successfully complete the PhD program in Islamic Economics and Law are entitled to receive a doctoral diploma and degree.

 

Admission Requirements
  • To obtain a score of at least 55 in the ALES Verbal (Sözel) or Equally Weighted (Eşit Ağırlık) score types,

  • To obtain a score of at least 70 in the YDS or YÖKDİL (Arabic) exams,

  • To hold a master's degree with a thesis in the fields of Islamic Economics, Theology (Islamic Sciences), Business Administration, Economics, Law, or International Relations.

  • Students who were enrolled in or graduated from non-thesis master's programs before June 2, 2013, are eligible to apply for the doctoral (PhD) program.

Graduation Requirements

Islamic Economics and Law consists of seven courses, seminar, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and dissertation study. (240 ECTS total) The normal duration of this program is 8 semesters and the maximum duration is 12 semesters. In order to graduate, students should successfully pass the pre-requisite course(s), have their Cumulative GPA minimum 3.00, successfully pass the proficiency exam and submit the thesis proposal and dissertation study.

In order for a student who is enrolled in a doctoral program to graduate, at least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled.

  1. Two papers presented at national or international scientific conferences,
  2. An article published in a peer-reviewed/ indexed journal, accepted for publication, or received a DOI number,
  3. Two papers presented at Social / Science symposiums organized by IZU.
Recognition of Prior Learning
  • Master's graduates who meet the application requirements for the Islamic Economics and Law Doctoral Program are eligible to apply. Upon the recommendation of the examination jury and the approval of the department chair, they can enroll in the Doctoral Education and Training Program of the Department of Islamic Economics and Law within the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Institute of Graduate Education.

  • Additionally, newly enrolled students can apply for exemptions regarding courses previously taken at the doctoral level at IZU that are also included in the Islamic Economics and Law PhD curriculum. These exemption applications are evaluated by the Department.

Employment Opportunities
  • Graduates of the Islamic Economics and Law Doctoral Program can work in relevant institutions within both the public and private sectors. Students graduating from this program can also find employment opportunities in academic institutions related to the field. These institutions include both national and international universities as well as research organizations. Currently, in Turkey, there are Islamic economics and finance programs available at the undergraduate level in 2 universities and at the graduate level in 13 universities.

  • Another field where our graduates can be employed is private sector institutions and companies. They can work in domestic and international companies operating within Islamic principles across various sectors, and they can also find employment opportunities in participation banks, participation (takaful) insurance companies, savings-based finance companies, and participation portfolio management companies. Currently, 9 participation banks operate in Turkey with 1,207 branches and a 6.3% market share. In addition, the share of participation insurance companies within the insurance sector has reached 4.3%. In the steadily growing savings-based finance sector, more than 30 companies are actively operating.

Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of the PhD program, graduates can transition to post-doctoral research (post-doc) positions or apply for academic faculty roles in relevant disciplines globally.
