Course Objective

Today, the development of civilizations and the realization of activities aiming at human beings can only be realized with a good transportation system. Transportation does not only contribute to economic efficiency and benefit by bringing business areas closer to each other, but also engages planners' agendas with various adverse effects, especially air and noise pollution. Urban population in Turkey increases faster than anticipated; planners often lead to the subsequent planning of transport in uneven and unplanned structured areas, which reveals the need for a high degree of planing equipment for transport. In this context, the aim of the course is to introduce transportation discipline to planner candidates, to introduce basic information, concepts, basic principles of transportation planning and preliminary information about process, current problems, approach and solution proposals by establishing relations with related fields. In this process; students are expected to be able to comment on the existing transportation system, to make decisions and to develop solutions.

Course Content

Lesson; (in terms of politics and economics), land use in urban areas, transportation and transportation systems, basic concepts and principles of transportation, transportation systems, characteristics and qualities, urban travel characteristics, transportation planning definition, content, decision making, demand and support analyzes. site selection decisions and innovative transport systems. The transportation course will be applied in the course of the weekly course schedule, subject discussion, discussions on subject expression, discussion and evaluation of assignments. It is important that homeworks are delivered on time. Late or incomplete deliveries will be assessed in the direction of the instructors' initiative, on equity and equity principles.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Gain the ability to express ideas and findings related to student research in verbal and written form
  2. Student will have information about urban transportation systems and urban transport planning concepts
  3. The student will be able to evaluate the existing urban transportation policies, administrative and legal structures in Turkey
